Meanwhile back at the ranch, Hunter Brown had a very good outing for Sugar Land last night. 5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 10 K

The only difference is "Breggie" will be with the team next season, Correa will not. Unfortunately, you may be right. I'd gladly let "Breggie" go if it meant we could keep Correa. Breggie's power and run production went out in a trash can in 2019. Correa's worth to this team is twice as much as Breggie's. A slight correction to your comment, Bregman's power went out the window with the juiced balls in 2019. This years drop in slugging is related more to fewer triples, doubles and infield singles than it is to home runs per sei. No wheels no juiced balls is bound to result in reduced power numbers. Let's face it Bregman is not a 41 home run a year guy, but then again neither is Correa. Correa is gone and no amount of belly aching is going to bring him around to signing here.

In the 3 games prior to 9/24 Jeremy Pena went 9-12, including 5 home runs, a triple and 2 doubles.
In the game on 9/24 Pena was HBP twice. He went 1-3 with a double in that game.
In the 3 games since the game in which he was HBP twice Pena is 2-13 with 2 singles. He has not responded well to being plunked.

I remember a few years ago a batter allowed the bat to “slip” out of his hand right after the pitcher threw one high and tight. Both players were ejected, the benches cleared, both fined but I do not think he got thrown at again for awhile. Seems like money well spent.

What bothers me more than the home runs is the lack of doubles and especially going to the opposite field. It’s different from Altuve because he chooses not to whereas Bregman seems unable. The less of an all-fields ability someone has, the more he plays right into the defense. It’s worrisome that he won’t even bother swinging at outside strikes generally because they’re hard to pull. If that’s how he wants to be that’s cool, but that’s weak for a guy they want in the prime hitting spot of the order.

Bregman wasn't healthy when he struggled earlier in the year. Despite all that, he's posted 2.2 WAR in just 86 games. So while dealing with injuries he's still played at a 4 win rate. He's also right in his prime at 27. I'm not concerned about Bregman long-term TBH.
Not to mention he posted 8.4 WAR in 2019. Most people don't even have a single career year anywhere close to that. It would be easy to be spoiled by that and not appreciate him enough now. He's already the best 3B in franchise history:
Bregman: 23.6 WAR Rader: 20.3 WAR Caminiti: 19.2 WAR Ensberg: 14.4 WAR Howe: 13.4 WAR

He is still has an ops over 800 so not bad for an off year.

No. We have an idiot making out the lineup card who has no clue about when to switch things up. Dusty moves others around, but, seldom does he move Altuve or Bregman. Tucker has been the best hitter on this team over the last 100 games and has spent most of that time hitting 5th or lower. Your best hitter normally belongs in the three spot.........Bregman is not close to being that good.

However, that has nothing to do with the caliber of third baseman he was during his career. he was a better fielder and had an arm equal to what we are seeing from Correa. He also had more power and was the NL MVP. Where is Breggie's MVP plaque?

Caminiti could play third base without a glove and be better than Bregman. Everyone knows he was a drug addict that ruined his career and lost his life due to drugs. I never said he didn't use steroids. In fact, he admitted to using them which is a hell of a lot more than many, many more who use or have used them have ever done. How many more like Bonds, Sosa, and MaGwire used them and lied about it? With the Padres, Caminiti had the highes SLG and OPS in their history. He was the unanimous NL MVP. Bregman has not matched those numbers......yet. I don't need you to curb anything for me. I stand by my original post........Caminiti was a much better third baseman than Bregman. Caminiti's MVP was during a steroid-riddled season. Hardly makes it a fair comparison. Unless you're saying that you're totally cool with Bonds, Sosa, etc. Are you saying they're all legit? C. I watched Caminiti play. Great arm. He didn't have the range that Bregman does. Which is why Bregman can even play SS respectably. D. I never mentioned Cammy's drug use. I'm comparing their performances as an Astro 3B. One was a very solid all-around player. One has been elite (when healthy).

He was the unanimous NL MVP. now who's being a clownSo, since you disagree with my assessment of how Bregman and Caminiti played third base, I'm a clown. LMAO Ken Caminiti was an elite third baseman. His being a drug addict has nothing to do with his ability to play the position. I stated FACTS regarding Caminiti's accomplishments during his career. If you doubt them, look them up. Caminiti did, in fact, admit to steroid usage. Many of the current Astro players were involved in a sign-stealing scandal which lead many to doubt the authenticity of our WS title. MLB found the Astros organization guilty of stealing signs....NO INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS were exonerated or convicted. It was a TEAM verdict. Yet, we have some people who convicted Marwin, Marisnick, Springer, etc. while claiming that Altuve and others were innocent when there is NO proof of their innocence just as there is no proof of the guilt of others. We want to include the fact that Caminiti used steroids to boost his career run production which is a valid point. If so, it is also a valid point to conclude that Bregman and others benefitted from sign stealing. The decline in his numbers seem to indicate that Bregman was one of the top benefactors of the sign stealing. Could be that his power and run production went out in the trash cans we no longer hear banging. The point here is to not hang Caminiti for cheating by using steroids while exonerating Bregman from benefitting from sign stealing. If steroids helped Caminiti boost his numbers, and, no doubt that was the case, then, it is safe to say that Bregman used the sign stealing to inflate his numbers. Choosing to claim that any player on the roster during the sign stealing years are totally innocent is wrong. I don't care if some teammates said Jose, Reddick, Kemp, or anyone else was innocent. There is nothing to prove it. The numbers of both Bregman and Altuve have been in decline since the scandal broke. I am not posting this to blast either of them....just to point out what numbers indicate. Each of us is entitled to our own opinions regarding any player's performance. The fact that someone else disagrees doesn't mean the poster is wrong or being a clown.

When I said Bregman deserved the MVP in 2019 that was BEFORE the sign scandal ever broke. I was not the only one who said it. 2. Bregman's numbers in 2019 were during a season which has been tainted by the sign stealing scandal. I never said Bonds, Sosa, etc. were legal. They were all guilty just as some are who never were charged with using steroids. 3. Caminiti made some plays and made throws that Bregman could not begin to make. Bregman was a SS converted to a third baseman. His range is not what it was before his leg issues. 4. Caminiti's drug usage was no secret and he admitted it. He was an elite third baseman. Bregman WAS an elite defensive third baseman whose range has declined. Everyone seems to want to ignore Bregman's decline over the last two seasons. Maybe he can get back to where he was. If he can, I'd take him over Caminiti in a heartbeat.
