Time for the annual thread.
Just 6 games ago he was at a .347/.400/.469 line. Since then he has gone 2-24 and is now at a miserable .260/.305/.356 line for the season.
Granted, it's only been 18 games total, but what happened in those last 6 games? Yes, he had 4-5 "hard hit" outs (95+mph) during that timeframe, but it's still pretty bad. He also had more sacrifice flies than walks, which is sadly impressive, during those 6 games.
Is this just a rough patch, or is there a bigger issue? Hopefully a good series in NYC will get him going again.

I just think as he gets older he is becoming more streaky and can no longer have those games with a hit or two that are crazy hits. The hits he used to get when the pitch is almost in the dirt or way outside.
Altuve is now either extremely hot or extremely cold. He will get hot again soon and bring his average back up closer to his career average.

He is back to trying to be a dead pull hitter and that is when he gets in a slump. He better prepare for Yankee fans to boo the hell out of him because they still think he homered off Chapman because he knew what pitch was coming and that he "stole" the MVP from Judge. I hope booing is all they do. The low class fans in NY are known for throwing things at opposing players.

For what it's worth, he had a fairly comparable month of April in 2014 and he went on to have 225 hits and a .341 AVG. (135 OPS+)

I wouldn't read too much into it...yet. I agree with Coach in that he gets into mindsets where he tries to yank everything out of the park. His bat-to-ball skill has always been so good that he can hit almost anything so instead of waiting for a pitch in a zone to hit, he literally goes through streaks where he wails at anything. He's an extremely good hitter but not always the most intelligent hitter. Ultimately, I think he'll be okay.

When he shows some patience at the plate and hits to all fields, he is one of the best in the game. When he is goes up there and swings at everything, pitchers pick up on it and know they can get him out without throwing strikes. He has streaks where he just hacks away, and, appears not to be intelligent enough to realize it. This is the main reason I don't like him leading off. I"d put Correa back there....it seemed to benefit both the team and Carlos.

If he is leading off, he needs to be the 200+ hitter Jose....not try to be 30HR Jose... 200+ Hits, 50 of them being doubles + 15 HRs along with 25 steals, is that too much to ask, c'mon Jose!

His 2016 and 2017 versions were his best versions. 200+ Hits with 20 HR power.

I’ll take 50 doubles over 20 home runs from Altuve anytime. What made him a superstar were the base hits and the batting average, not the power.

I guess that is why he encouraged Straw to try to "hitty de home run". He needs to forget trying to 'hitty de home run" and concentrate on getting a "hitty".

Straw should never try to hit home runs. With his speed, if he can develop a swing that lets him consistently hit line drives, hit to the opposite field, and bunt, he would be just what we need and could move into the leadoff spot. Unless he can do that, his speed will be mostly a waste.

All players need to be able to drive the ball some. It just doesn't need to be the primary focus.

Altuve was struggling before yesterday. I doubt the fans have anything to do with it.

I think the scandal bothered him to some degree last year and in some cases and now. He should understand why his integrity comes into question.

From astros.com:
"Astros second baseman Jose Altuve went 2-for-4 with a double, extending his hitting streak to a season-high six games. He’s batting .423 (11-for-26) during the streak, with two homers, four runs and four RBIs. He has recorded five consecutive multihit games for the first time since July 4-14, 2017 -- his MVP-Award winning year."
Obviously he is still a ways away from his MVP-level self, but he is looking very good overall again.

Not really a lecture....just an observation. I am just amazed that you seem to have memorized everything remotely connected to Altuve. It often sounds like you are obsessed with him.

And here is yet another useless comment from the green mongoloid who stays obsessed with talking about a guy who is no longer in the picture. As usual, you think a player's total worth lies in a statistic. I see you never mention his defense, the runs he prevented from being scored against us, and, how our pitchers....especially Verlander......wanted him in CF when they pitched. I am sure you are an expert on limp peckers since part of your job is to clean them when come in to pick up the bedpan.
