Altuve swinging for the fences and down to a knee when he only needs a base hit, and then punching out looking when he gets two strikes is horrific. Where did our All-Star go and who is this guy? When he’s the winning run, I don’t mind him swinging for the fences as much, but his approach has been terrible a lot of the time. He was a lethal hitter not only for power but for hits going the other way, which he’s almost completely scrapped from his game.On the taking strikes point, I agree. Taking a third strike, especially when a batted out can get you a run is a problem prevalent with the offense as a whole as they don’t generally hit into productive outs. Bunting runners over or even for hits would be nice, but it’s sacrilege to the SABR pundits. In this case, we were the home team. So, Jose should have been concentrating on driving in the two tying runs more than swinging for the Crawford Boxes. These days, if he gets a hit the other way, it is an accident.

On the bright side, both the A's and Mariners lost so we still lead the division by 5.5 games.

Miguel Cabrera arguably took an MVP away from Mike Trout because of the novelty of winning an offensive Triple Crown. Maybe? I'm not certain Mike would have won it, had Miguel not won the TC. But I believe it would have at least been a much closer result. As it was, 22 first place votes for Cabrera, 6 first place votes for Trout. The (valid) argument from Angels fans was that Mike had far more value on defense.

If Ohtani put up these numbers for the Astros, Yankees, White Sox, Rays, etc. he should be the unanimous MVP. Shohei Ohtani > Carlos CorreaAs usual, retard....you totally missed the point because you were so eager to think you had something to gloat about. Let me explain so maybe even someone with your limited mental capacity can grasp it.........Ohtani should NOT be the MVP because he plays for the Angels, who are LOSERS. If Ohtani put up those same numbers of a team that is WINNING such as the ASTROS, YANKEES, WHITE SOX, RAYS, ETC......he should be the unanimous MVP. What that shows is that his numbers would actually mean something and make a difference for his team.....For this season, he is qualified to be the MVP due to his numbers. Correa is still the better all around player....he plays an elite SS, he is a clutch hitter, he plays every day. Ohtani is a DH and a mediocre pitcher....When you compare that to what Correa brings to the team. CARLOS CORREA > SHOHEI OHTANI

Dusty the Dumbass keeps playing flip flop in CF.......Chas back in CF today, Meyers back to the bench. Yordan in LF, Diaz the DH
Why doesn't the idiot see that he has a better team with Meyers in CF? With Brantley out of the lineup due to "right knee discomfort", it would make sense to put Chas in LF, keep Meyers in CF, and have Yordan DH. But, why expect Dusty to put a lineup out there that makes sense. I repeat......If we win this season, it will be in spite of Dusty Baker. Hopefully, this is the last season we have to suffer through his incompetence.

CARLOS CORREA > SHOHEI OHTANI Not this year, at least not by your assessment. Nah, we're all aware of your pointless 'point'. You're under the misguide belief that the MVP must be on a team that wins the division. The vast majority of us disagree. But in your contradictory statements you created a dookie that just won't flush no matter how hard you backpedal or try to dance your way out of it. If Ohtani put up those same numbers of a team that is WINNING such as the ASTROS, YANKEES, WHITE SOX, RAYS, ETC......he should be the unanimous MVP. The Astros are one of the teams you named. So according to you, Ohtani should win the MVP if he had played for the Astros this year. And not just win, but win unanimously! So either you admit Ohtani would have been the best player on the Astros this year (better than Carlos) if he played for them ... OR you're telling us the MVP should go to a player on the same division winning team that was NOT the best player on the team. By all means, please try to explain your contradiction. I'd love to watch you try to misdirect and dance your way out of it.

The "dookie" here that won't flush is the BS you keep putting up as to why this DH with a . 259 BA whose numbers are less than Vlad Jr.s whose team is actually winning and is probably headed to the post season while the media darling will finish in 4th place and headed home. A DH will never be a better player than a guy who is a great all-around player who plays every day. If we went solely on numbers, Ohtani may be the MVP although Vlad Jr. has better numbers. You just keep on slobbering all over Ohtani. That is your privilege.

Vlad is having a great offensive season on a team surrounded by really good hitters. But he's also awful defensively and brings negative value to his team on that side of the game.
Ohtani is also having a great offensive season, ALMOST as good as Vlad while having NOBODY (except Walsh) around him at all. But he's also been an all-star caliber starting pitcher.
So you have an all-star caliber pitcher who is on pace for 50 HRs and a .950+ OPS (and 20+ SBs), or a defensive liability 1B who is on pace for 50 HRs and a .950+ OPS (and 4 SBs). This should be an obvious decision.

^^^ I said I am a Luddite when it comes to looking at Stats. Considering what you have typed and it is supposed to be an Induvial Win and not a team Win. Then yes.
I didn't realize he was that bad on defense and that plays a lot into the Thinking. If he really is that bad and wins the Triple Crown then should be enough glory as he needs to pick up that area. Astros had a great SS a while back but couldn't hit worth a lick and once he got hurt he became useless. So it needs to be both sides of the ball

So it needs to be both sides of the ball Defense at 1B can be challenging to properly value since one of the biggest things with them is their ability to scoop bad throws and such, not necessarily how good their range is. For Vlad, he is tied for 5th in the league in errors, and he is worth negative defensive runs saved. Although to his credit, he is vastly better this year than he was last year when he was so bad they were considering making him a full-time DH. I'll take the DH that also pitches every 5th day with great success other than the DH that plays 1B weakly.

Vlad Jr. will have led his team to the post-season.......Ohtani will have led the Angels to 4th place. The award should go to Vlad Jr., but, it won't. The media gave it to Ohtani a long time ago.

I haven't seen his defensive stats as a pitcher. I know he has thrown 115 IP with an elite 134 ERA+ while going 9-2 despite being on a bad team. I know his losing record 4th place team, is 13-8 in games he starts as a pitcher.

And finally on the subject of the MVP award, I heard Tim Kurkjian of ESPN put it correctly today......He has the idea that instead of calling this award the MVP, it should be renamed as "Player of the Year" since the guy who is the best individual player is not necessarily the "most valuable", which makes perfect sense because a guy can put up great stats such as those Ohtani has piled up and not necessarily be the most valuable since his team is going nowhere.
