What's up with you and blunts? That song was wildly popular when I was in high school. I always found it really annoying.

We want them to play hard in EVERY GAME. I know I do. That's not to say I want to see Bregman running down the first base line like his hair is on fire when a grounder is hit sharply to an infielder. Or see Brantley crashing into walls trying to make impossible catches. But I do want to see them grinding out every plate appearance against tough pitchers. And see them keeping their heads in the game, even when behind by a considerable margin. Whether the first AB of the game or the last, they all matter, regardless if the game is won or lost. Having respect for the game and playing it the right way, builds character and strengthens the team. That's the mindset needed to prepare a team go deep into the postseason. Be in the moment, every moment of every game.
After the win, savor the feeling but only for a short time. After the loss, learn what you can from it, then move on. Win or lose, what you just did is now relegated to the past. Prepare yourself for tomorrow and be ready when tomorrow becomes today.
And that's all I have to say about that ...
This part is vitally important to a team of admitted cheaters. Their reputation is already perilously balanced on the edge of disaster. Being known as a cheater AND a slacker will ruin their careers.

Most teams want home field in the post season. I guarantee the Rays think it's important. Having a don't care attitude about that is not the right approach. I will say it didn't help when we played the Nationals. That was the most strange WS in that regard......The road team won all 7 games. The odds of that happening are probably close to one in a million.

I'm not saying they shouldn't play hard. I'm just saying that there is no reason why they can't pump the brakes some as the season progresses and their lead is strong in order to try and rest and prevent further injuries. This is a team that shouldn't be satisfied with just making the postseason. They should expect to go deep in the playoffs. And if they get to the postseason hurt and exhausted, they won't go deep. We've seen what they can do when they get to the postseason regardless of how good they did in the regular season. So, you are basing your prediction on what will happen this season on what they have done in the past? Not surprising since you keep telling us how good Odorizzi is because of what he has done in the past. What happened in the past........whether it be positive or negative.....has nothing to do with what is happening now or will happen in the post season. Past success doesn't mean shit in 2021. It is NEVER OK not to give 100%. If you are injured and can't give it all you've got, you don't need to be in the game because you are hurting your team.

Y'all are saying the same thing I am... I'm just putting it more bluntly. Really? I read the comments of other posters and I didn't any of them come close to saying the same thing. None of them said it's OK not to give 100% effort all of the time. Nobody based what will happen this post-season on what they did the last few seasons. You are right in that we need to go into the post-season with all healthy players. But, playing them when they can't or shouldn't go 100% is hurting the team's chances to win and risking a recurrence of injury. We DO have a 6.5 game lead so keep injured players off the field whether it's Bregman, Brantley, etc. We have capable players to fill both positions. They may not be the hitters the starters are, but, they did a pretty damn good job of filling in when starters were on the IL.

Where do you draw the line? Is Bregman not running out a groundball halfassing or being careful? Is swinging at pitches out of the zone your definition of halfassing or trying too hard? Did Greinke WANT to give up bombs? What are you considering to be half-assing?

I go by what is actually in print and not what you claim you said or didn't say after the fact. Whether or not a Pollyanna type takes me seriously is of no importance. If there is caricature here, it is you. You said that we should not be concerned with half-assed effort because we are leading the division. You also implied.......if not just saying it outright.........it is OK to not run out ground balls in games in which we are behind and probably can't win. So, giving 100% effort all the time is not important to you and you said as much. Now, that some of us disagree with what you said, and, said we are NOT OK with less than 100% effort, you try to backtrack and claim you didn't it. Seems to me like you are incapable of realizing what you actually said. Your knowledge of what is expected of a championship team is very poor, so many here totally disagree with you. Being willing to accept any level of mediocrity from a team capable of performing at a high level is the attitude of a loser.

What do you expect...a signed confession? Where do you draw the line? Is Bregman not running out a groundball halfassing or being careful? Is swinging at pitches out of the zone your definition of halfassing or trying too hard? Did Greinke WANT to give up bombs? What are you considering to be half-assing? If Bregman or any other player can't run out a ground ball without fear of injury, he has no business on the field. Since you seem to think we have things in hand, why take the risk of aggravating the injury by playing them? Not going all out IS giving a half-assed effort however you choose to spin it. Asking if Greinke wanted to give up bombs is a ridiculous question. Of course, he didn't want to give them up. He gave them up because he could not locate the pitches that got hit out of the park. All three home runs were on pitches in the middle of the plate with no movement on them. He didn't put the pitches there on purpose. Much of it probably came from not pitching for over two weeks. Control pitchers need to work in order to remain sharp. He doesn't have the velocity to be able to get swings and misses on pitches he leaves in the middle of the plate. If he can't hit corners and get movement, he is in trouble. Some of the hitters swing at pitches out of the zone on a regular basis so I don't think you could call that a half-assed effort. Some....like Correa...have a tendency to sometimes take fastballs in the zone that they should hit and then strike out going after breaking balls out of the zone. Giving less than 100% no matter the game situation is unacceptable. If you are 10 runs up or 10 behind, you should still be giving a full effort. If you can't or won't, your ass needs to be on the bench no matter who you are.

But, we didn't lose because my players chose to not to run out ground balls or give a full effort when playing defense. I had a kid decide to jog after a ball that he misplayed that went to the fence. As soon as that play was over, I called timeout and pulled his ass off the field in the middle of the inning. He never made that mistake again and went on to be an all-district outfielder. But, he learned a lesson on giving effort his freshman year of high school and never did drag his ass again. Undoubtedly, you had coaches who allowed you not to give 100% which leads you to think giving a half-assed effort at times is OK. That is the definition of a loser. You did great in defining a loser......accepting mediocrity always produces a loser. No doubt that you also favor giving kids participation trophies. LOL

LOL Have you had any players ever reach the majors; and if so, which player(s)? No, I never had one reach the majors. I had one, Daryl Green, who was the #1 pick of the Angels in 1986, who played minor league baseball. The last I heard he gave it up due to continued knee problems. I had another who was the 3rd round pick of the Cubs in the early 80's who didn't sign and decided to go home and run one of his dad's restaurants. He later went into coaching and school administration. I had a few more play college baseball. I had some guys who were good at the college level, but, not good enough to play professionally. Daryl lasted in the minors for 5-6 years. www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=green-004dar

I must have struck a nerve and reminded you that you never played on a team that ever won shit........if you actually ever put on a uniform and played at all. If some coach caused you to think that giving less than your best effort at all times is OK, the SOB wasn't fit to be coaching. Attacking me because you have nothing better to back up your asinine opinion is a prime example of a loser.
