I'm a little concerned at how the transition will go. You need to bring a catcher up and let him get his legs under him and get used to working with the pitchers, and vice versa, so you don't just want to let Maldonado go at the end of next year and bring Lee right in to Spring Training with none of that groundwork laid. So he really needs to come up next year. But once he's up, he needs to play at least 3-4 times a week because you're trying to develop the bat as well, so then you take half the games from Maldonado and who knows how the pitchers react to it, both on and off the field. Dusty is going to need to handle all that. I’d like for Maldonado to eventually end up where he’s supposed to be, the backup.

On Thursday, Pedro Leon went 1-for-3 with a walk, a dinger, and two RBI. On Friday, he went 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Played CF both days.
Korey Lee took an ugly 0-for-4 with three Ks on Friday.
Grae Kessinger was 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored on Friday.
Joe Record kept rolling with 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K and a save on Thursday. He has not allowed a run on just one base hit in 9.2 IP total.
Chad Donato got roughed up on Friday: 3.2 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 K
Unrelated, but Friday's game was 8-6 with 29 combined hits and walks among the two teams. Time of game? 2 hours, 33 minutes. Maybe Manfred can cut out some of the ridiculous number of commercials if he's so worried about time of game and pace of play. But he won't of course!

Grae Kessinger (26th round, 774 overall draft pick), and Joe Record (28th round, 826 overall draft pick) are interesting stories. Completely under the radar. If either of them make it to the bigs it will be like found money.

Do you think he has a shot at making it to the big club next season? Maybe not out of Spring Training, but I imagine he'd be one of the first guys called up when there's a need. Or he could be a trade chip this off-season.

Do you think he has a shot at making it to the big club next season? A shot? Absolutely! His performance in ST will determine whether or not he stays with the team after they break camp. The numbers he puts up in AZFL won't directly translate to MLB but they have put him on the radar. He also posted respectable numbers in AA. www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=record000joe

Korey Lee had better start hitting again if he wants to usurp the awesome bat of Maldy.
