Uncle Mike is everything he needs to be and worth his salary. If the Astros have an internal replacement for 2023, it would make sense to go that way. Otherwise, he'll still be a good choice if he continues to hit the way he did in 2021. JMO. I don't think he would be a BAD choice. But I do think we can get the same overall production for less than what we're paying him now. I think that's not a consideration until the offseason a year from now. In my opinion, three of the four OF positions are well set for 2022 and the only question is, do they use Siri as the fourth outfielder or go Barefoot in 2022. Personally I'd like to see Siri back in the minors for another year and maybe learn some humility. But apparently he's Dusty's boy.

you wanted to trade Bagwell in 1995, didn't you? (assuming you were alive then) I was young enough at the time to not understand all that stuff. But, I certainly liked Bagwell from the beginning as a kid. Especially after I got to meet him at an autograph session at my batting cages. I guess you just still surprise me with your trains of thought. You'll excuse the shittiest performance from some players, while criticizing MVP winners and Batting Title holders and runners-up.

I only mentioned it because it was brought up to extend him past next year already. I think we need to take a wait and see approach with him. With Tucker, Chas, and Meyers I think we have at least two OF positions set for a while. Siri, who knows... It might very well be that we NEED a player like Brantley past next year if those young guys don't step into a full-time role, but I don't know that it has to be that much money.

You'll excuse the shittiest performance from some players, while criticizing MVP winners and Batting Title holders and runners-up. Where was the criticism? Just because I said I think we might want to look elsewhere after next year to replace Brantley's production? It all comes down to value if we're wanting the team to be successful. I'm not going to complain much about a roleplayer making a million or less. But when players starting making $10+ million a year, I expect a little more for what is being invested. I'm certainly not mad at Brantley or want us to get rid of him right now. I'm just saying that, if his overall production in 2021 carries over to 2022 (120 games, 8 HR, weak defense, weak baserunning) that he doesn't need to be somebody we throw another $16 million per year at. It doesn't mean I have anything against him, or that he didn't earn his current contract. Just like I say that I wouldn't pay CC $30 million a year for 10 years. It doesn't mean I don't think CC is a good player, I just don't think he's worth that contract.

I'm against trading Yordan, but I wouldn't favor locking in his arb-controlled years at $20M per either

In principle I agree with what Corch said about getting production from guys for relatively cheap. You just won't see me calling anyone dumb for disagreeing

No, because I do think there is room for some sentiment for some players. For example, I'm absolutely glad that we kept Biggio and Bagwell the way we did. I also hope that we keep Altuve for his entire career (unless he suddenly becomes some kind of egotistical *sshole).

Only in so far as if you extrapolate his rates, he's the greatest left-handed hitter in Astros history. I say we ride the batting freak, give him his due raises and consider a QO when he's eligible if he's still producing

I just also think it would be beneficial to keep our ears open for trades for him too.

Probably matters little when it comes to whether or not he's trade fodder. But does matter in regards to whether he'll be on the active roster. JMO.

I try to like every player on the team. Siri makes it difficult for me to do that.

Look, Dusty's just "OK" as a manager IMO. The things I have against him are: he thinks he can plug in any BP arm in regardless of the situation, he missed multiple reviews that would have gone in the Astros' favor had he bothered to challenge, his insane attachment to Maldonado when his bat actively killed the team and wiped out any perceived defensive or game-calling value and the way he handled pitchers in general. Then I didn't care for the way he constructed the lineup, especially in the WS. You don't have time in a short series to let guys "figure it out". The Astros lost fair and square (scoring 4 runs total in the 4 losses), but he ain't Hinch.

That being said, I really don’t care who the manager is when the players suck at the plate or on the field. I agree that he went with Bregman way too long in the 3-spot, but no one else on the team shines in that spot either.

They should just bat Altuve 3rd and keep Bregman low in the lineup until he can earn everyone’s trust again. It’s been a long time with the injury excuses.

Only thing that concerns me aside from Dusty's faults is this means we could lose Joe Espada. I think he would've been a good manager for this group since he's been part of the clubhouse for so long

Pedro Severino C from the Orioles would be a good stop gap for the Astros behind Maldonado. Move Castro. Severing can play OF as well
