So the Astros are hot and heavy on high End top of the rotation SP. They have high intreast in Trevor Story. Jake Odorizzi is being shopped hard for anything out there. Astros might be willing to move anyone in the OF except Kyle Tucker. Man, if only coach was still here to keep you in line...

Man, if only coach was still here to keep you in line... Bortaz will let him back....and then ban him again. That's a hard negative.

Bortaz will let him back....and then ban him again. That's a hard negative. You don't know Bortaz like I do....He is tough, but a softy...Corch will send him some flowers and a PF Chang's gift card....And the Assman is back, for a short time.

Ideally, they re-sign Correa, trade Peña and have León in CF.

Correa is gone .
Agree Chas is the trade piece.
Look at Castillo from the Reds and Alcantra from the Marlins. Rodon FA from the White sox

One injury and Sherwin is immediately off the Meyers campaign bus.

I’ll start: 1. Starting pitcher(s). 2. Leadoff hitter. 3. Ace defender shortstop. 4. Re-sign Graveman. 5. Re-sign Dusty? Brian McTaggert presented a similar five questions. 5 big questions facing Astros this offseasonThe last item is sort of a catch-all. I'll add a few questions, a pair of them are reiterations of Sherwin's. - Re-sign Graveman.
- Re-sign Dusty?
- Will one of VooDoo's wacky trade proposals actually happen?
- Who will play shortstop in 2022?
That is, and will remain, THE question for this offseason until it's settled. The Astros will remain in the auction until the number of years exceeds what the front office is willing to go. They'll also look at other FAs on the market, either a SS or perhaps more of a utility man who provides good defense at several positions and can hit around league average and try to use one of the guys currently in the minors at short.
- What’s the plan in center field?
Stay the course. The OF is one area where the Astros can and will rely on young cheap talent. It really doesn't matter whether it's Chas or Meyers in center.
- Is there a need for another ace pitcher?
Yes. I predict two FAs (although they may not be 'ace' level. Injuries happen and the Astros need depth. Verlander has been thrown a QO so he may be one, or the Astros get a pick. Or a trade might happen with a team who's looking to rebuild and shed some salary in the form of a starter who's on the last year of a contract.
- How will the departure of Brent Strom affect the pitching staff?
That all depends on who replaces him, doesn't it? The more interesting part of this is how bold do the Astros go? Will they hire someone with a resume, or a relative unknown like the Tigers did?
- With money to spend, where will it go?
Hard to say just how much money there is. However a LOT of money did come off the books, creating needs to be filled. The Astros slightly exceeded the threshold in 2021 so I predict they'll try to stay under that and leave some room for deadline trade(s). But I could be wrong. Maybe they throw caution to the wind and get VERY spendy. idk.
- Re-sign Graveman.
Maybe. Or maybe different FA reliever. But I doubt they'll stand pat.
- Re-sign Dusty?
Done deal.
- Will one of VooDoo's trade proposals actually happen?
They say even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. But I predict he'll remain nutless.

So, fans on the internet are pissed that Verlander was able to throw 96 mph in auditions for a new contract, a week after he was unable to pitch for the Astros in the World Series. What do you guys think?

Just because he threw a few pitches for that kinda speed. How long would he have lasted in a Game without having built up more arm strength to last 5/7 innings and would that have been enough to win the WS

There were multiple times when we could have used a good pitcher for an inning or two.

Ok I don't know enough about his Disable Status to say if they could have happened under MLB rules
I really think they Need him on the Team not only as a Premier Pitcher but also can help some of the younger pitchers struggling. A lot of Pitching is absolutely Talent but a high percentage is also in the Head. A pitcher can have good stuff but if he isn't right in his head they usually flop

So, fans on the internet are pissed that Verlander was able to throw 96 mph in auditions for a new contract, a week after he was unable to pitch for the Astros in the World Series. What do you guys think? There are too many unanswered questions for me to form an opinion.Did the coaching staff schedule a bullpen session to evaluate Verlander before the WS? If not, I'd be pissed at the coaching staff. If so, but the medical staff didn't give clearance to allow that to happen, I'd be pissed at the doctors. If so, but Verlander said he wasn't wasn't ready and didn't participate, I'd be pissed at JV. (But I really doubt this was the case.) Lighting up a radar gun impresses some folks but it is NOT an indicator of whether or not a pitcher can pitch effectively. If all he can locate is a four-seamer that's straight and flat, he probably won't fool anyone and is likely to be taken yard more than once. Would JV have been able to throw a good inning or two on a couple of days? Without knowing what else he could throw, it's impossible to say whether he would have been an effective weapon or a severe liability. And who would the Astros have left off the roster to make room for that big question mark? It seems like they traded for quite a few relievers at the deadline. I didn't trust Yimi but he did well in the WS. Of the in-house candidates, Javier performed extremely well in the postseason, up to and including his first appearance in the WS. After that, he sucked, though. Would you have gone with just one lefty and replaced either Raley or Taylor with Verlander? idk.

What do you guys think? He can do whatever he wants now that he’s a free agent. I do however think it’s a bad look but it is what it is. I’m not talking about him not pitching in the World Series. I’m talking about how he’s showcasing the second he received the QO.

“Justin Verlander was supposed to throw out the first pitch with Mattress Mac but the players went to Crane and told him they didn’t want him to because he hasn’t been there all year. No reason to spotlight him now,” John Granato of ESPN 97.5 Houston tweeted.
If there was any truth to this rumor, I imagine that ended any desire JV might have had to try and pitch in the WS this season and to stay with the Astros beyond this season.
