So, fans on the internet are pissed that Verlander was able to throw 96 mph in auditions for a new contract, a week after he was unable to pitch for the Astros in the World Series. What do you guys think? My take is it's actually two weeks after he would have had to be deemed ready to be added to the roster (day before the WS started) as well as he also would have had to have been quarantining and being tested etc. for some period of time before even that, and hitting 95/96 at least once (we don't know how many times) when his normal max is 98-100 in a 25-pitch bullpen session with zero stress is not the same as suddenly pitching in the World Series after not throwing a pitch in over an entire calendar year.

Ideally, they re-sign Correa, trade Peña and have León in CF. That doesn’t mean I don’t like Meyers. He’s easily my favorite of the three CF’s we have. I just figured they would want León out there because of the hype and money invested.

I still love him either way. He is the main reason, imo that we won the Serious in 2017.

So the Astros are hot and heavy on high End top of the rotation SP. They have high intreast in Trevor Story. Jake Odorizzi is being shopped hard for anything out there. Astros might be willing to move anyone in the OF except Kyle Tucker. Man, if only coach was still here to keep you in line... The Corch is Dead

Supposedly, if JV came back to pitch even a tiny bit, the Astros would not have received their full insurance payout on him. Certainly could have been a factor if true.

JV even flaming out at 97 at the tryout had more to lose by rushing back at the end of the season. Facing season long veteran hitters at that time, would be playing the odds not in is favor. With the shortage a starting pitching he can sit back and watch the mad money offers to his pick of destination.

I mean if they told me I had to quarantine away from my hot wife and my brand new baby for a week or two just to get cleared to pop my head in the clubhouse one afternoon and mingle with the guys I probably wouldn't either, especially in an age where you can interact with people via technology from a distance whenever you want to. TBH it just kind of strikes me as another example of fans wanting to hold the athletes they're jealous of to higher standards than they would want people holding themselves to.

I was much more annoyed at Lance being unavailable. There’s always something with that kid. Ever since Lance made it to the Majors this has been the cycle of my life: 1. Suggest that Lance might need to move to the pen to help him have a long career and not get injured. 2. Get lambasted by fans online (and once by Lance himself LOL) 3. Lance gets injured and the team suffers for it. It also takes him a significant while to get back to being effective once he comes back. Then start back at one.

Management's determination to make Lance a starter makes me think they would've tried to do the same with Hader had he stayed in the fold

Yeah I don't think Bregman is a realistic replacement for SS with his recent leg issues. I'm not sure he has the range for it anymore. I'm sure he could fill-in for a game here and there, but I don't believe he is a full-time replacement.
If we lose Correa and don't add a significant position player to replace him though, I'll be a little frustrated.

Correa to Díaz at SS is like going from Gurriel to Todd at 1B.

I don't think they'll sign a big-dollar SS now. Click is probably content with a Diaz/Pena combo.
