Rumor has it, the Tigers offered him $275 for ten years before signing Baez. oic Rumor is that Carlos liked the 10 years, just not the $275M.....

I think the only ways to miss out on draft picks is if the player is traded for during the last year of his deal or if the player signs with his new team after the draft.

The Astros made two Qualifying offers. One to Verlander, one to Correa. They both rejected their offers. At that point in time the Astros were eligible for TWO compensation picks, IF those players signed with other teams (prior to the 2022 June draft). Verlander signed with the Astros so possibility of that compensation pick evaporated. If Correa signs with the Astros, the possibility of that compensation pick will also evaporate. If Correa doesn't sign with any team prior to the June draft, the Astros' compensation pick associated with him will not materialize.

Somebody will give Correa 10-years $300(+) million. Just not us, hopefully.

A-Rod could’ve taken a bullet for Jeter, and their fans would critique how he dove in front of him.

I was always fine when the Astros got Tejada despite his history. I didn't think it was the right move for us at the time, but I had nothing against him.

I think the price on Correa is dropping to where I'm skeptical he'd even get a 1yr/$35M deal from somewhere to save face and re-enter the free-agent pool next winter

Then I factored in the loss of a pick ...

Jacob Coats is a local guy, Astros fans, who worked hard and got the Astros to sign him as an undrafted free agent:

One of the worst things about Tejeda, he aged so quickly.... and just right after acquiring him. He was a solid overall player for us and was an all-star both seasons, but he just didn't live up to the high salary PLUS the prospects we had to deal. He had a good defensive but weak offensive year, and then a good offensive but weak defensive year...

You could be right though. If Boras and him come out asking for ridiculously too much, it could be another Keuchel situation.

Hey guys, the IT department at my hospital has officially blocked this site from their servers, so I will only be able to use it in the evenings after work. I'll try to keep the spammer posts under control, so there is no need to report them. I can see them as well as you can. I just won't have time to delete them until later in the day (and probably not every day). Just FYI.
