I just can't let this Gattis Triple Play thing go..............
Don't you think a person who makes $6,700,000 for about 300 hours of work a year. (Okay make it 600 counting ST, and workouts, team events, etc.). would have the mental fortitude to avoid a self inflicted pickoff on a GITP?
We aren't the Tigers, Rays, or other AAA type teams which could almost have the excuse of mental lapses due their team not being competitive. Nope we are the World Champion Houston Astros, who have a chance to be the first WS repeat team in 18 years. I really hope AJ makes an example of him by benching him for at least a few games.
So, is there a false sense of complacency with certain players on this team? Are they still drunk with October exploits, and think they are invincible?
One way or another I sure hope Luhnow/AJ recognizes that a focus check might be in order ....... Because this thing sure isn't in the bag yet.

I guess the sentence was time squatting behind the plate.

You used to be able to punish catchers by matching them up with Knuckle ball Pitchers like Joe Niekro. I haven't seen a successful one in years or any in a while for that matter.

Newest rant is on behalf of my spouse.
She is a slow eater, always has been. OTOH.... It seems more and more now days you get wait staff shoving checks and to go boxes in your face, even while the forks are still moving. In fact last night a waitress tried to take her plate while she was still eating.
I understand the philosophy of prompt service, and moving tables (esp. when restaurant is busy and full)..... But it has almost hedged on rudeness, with more frequent Bum's Rush behavior from waiters.
Anyone else seeing this trend?

That is one of my wife's pet peeves, especially when at Perkin's. We are not even finished with the main meal and the waitress comes over and asks what do we want for dessert.

I know they are big in Florida especially around Orlando. There was a Perkins in Williamsport not far from the field, it was when you crossed the bridge from South Williamsport into Williamsport.

Yes. We stayed in Bloomsburg I remember you telling me staying in Bloomsburg, heck I could have put your gang up I was that close. Remember I was telling you I couldn't believe that the LL organization could not save hotel space closer to the site for teams that qualify for the tournament. Leaving teams to fend for themselves trying to find a place to stay.

That does it. I am supporting any political candidate who can legislate jail time for violation of the "Do Not Call List"
Though I do have a new tried and true way to get the Scam Windows Repair Team off your radar, even if temporarily.
First, I put on a deep law enforcement type voice, and tell them do you realize that this call breaks Interpol Rule 24, sub section 5. Punishable by no less than a $50,000 USD fine, and an a one year imprisonment?
Secondly I state we have state of the art Hertos 6.2 IP tracking device, and if you wouldn't mind staying on the line another 21 seconds, I'd appreciate it.
Hasn't failed yet.

Just this series I guess you heard about it, I cannot remember the team but family members were almost traveling something like over 80 miles to get to the field.

I love punking these callers especially the Microsoft ones that say your computer is sending out errors.

Funny what you can do when you are retired.

I got a call the other day saying "you are going to be arrested for three very serious crimes. Please press 1 so that you may be directed to a very important person who can fix the problem you find yourself in. He is a very busy man and only wants to talk to people who are serious about taking care of these matters today over the phone without the problems of being handcuffed and put in jail. Press 1 now or press 2 so that the police may be sent to your location". I can not tell you how disappointed I was when no one showed up.

I think I am going to go back to work but am having trouble resolving the pay and status issues in my mind. Petty I know but how do you go from being boss for 30 years to working for someone who is your kid's age.

Petty I know but how do you go from being boss for 30 years to working for someone who is your kid's age. I've was asked to come back as a consultant for the first few years, but basically responded that if I wanted to work, I wouldn't have retired in the first place. OTOH, I'd panhandle before working for a millenial.

I have been approached about being a trainer. My issue is that it would still be a 60 hour a week kind of job. Like you if I wanted to work like that and have the headaches associated with working like that I would not of retired. Now having said that I might be able to sell them on a contract for a fee for service type deal where I do seminars and such. There is an idea.

I am usually in continued prank mode. Some include church.
One of my favorites is in one of the responses I purposely sing 1 note off key. Love seeing the looks I get.
One of these days I am going to get the courage to drink the whole chalet of Communion wine. That would be a hoot to see the look on the servers face.

Slump Busting 101- Not trying to venture into OMBesque territory, but I figured he would be commenting on the fraught situation underway of late on Crawford Street Seems the June Swoon has struck the H Star a month early folks. The hitting is erratic, bullpen suspect at times, and there seems to be an overall fog surrounding what still is the most talented group of players in MLB. Do we have Stumbebums? Yes, Fisher, Marsisnek, and Gattis are all our Mendozans of the moment. And who could forget our "Real Men of Genius" nominees. .... Gattis of course who could star in an SWA commercial of Get Away- embarsssing moments by straying off 1st on his infamous GITP. And then there is Giles. Punching himself in the face? Hell he almost missed himself, Any break on a pitch in the strike zone> Forget about it. Lost in this debacle are the 4/5 of our starters who now sport a 15-2 record thus far. At what point does the funk start impacting them? Groveling to be left in the game is not a pretty site, and we are getting close. We can't fault Luhnow or Hinch. Management is doing their job, and A.J. though not perfect, has had a decent go at it. So what is going on? IMHO a few possibilities include...... (1) 2017 hangover? Sometimes there is a natural human reaction to let off the gas, once a goal is reached. Maybe these guys are starting to believe and are enamored with the accolades that are being bestowed. The mental lapses that we are seeing tend to indicate the same sense of urgency is not there. (2) Lack of clubhouse leadership? After being a manager 25 years in the workplace, I can assure you that peer pressure in a team environment is 10X more intimidating than a supervisor chewing you out. I was vocal last year that I didn't want to see Carlos Beltran back. But in retrospect, I think we can all agree that he provided leadership that went a long way in getting the most out of this team. Now in 2018, it seems this is missing. The problem we have is the heir apparent Altuve, just doesn't seem to have the temperment or the mindset to step up in that role. What is the solution at this point? Who knows....... Also we seem to get into funks, and no one steps up. Recent hitting efforts are very indicative of that. We seem to wait for someone else to deliver that clutch hit. (3) Lack of Focus- Gattis' ultra-stumblebum GITP is a perfect example. Another. is pitch selection of some of our long relievers. I can't find the stat, but another of my favorites of a barometer of team focus is RISP batting average. I can't find the stat, but it has to be pretty poor at this point. Also why aren't we hitting more HR's at MMP? We need to be exploiting the Crawford Boxes like the Red Sox beat the Green Monster like a Drum. (4) Opposition Adrenalin- They are the World Champs. Teams playing us have a little extra incentive, and it might be some of the reason why we are having problems with some pretty bad teams, One thing is for sure. The wheels are turning in Luhnow's head. This team better realize that there are probably only about 7 or 8 players that are untouchable. I am guessing that if we are at .550 or lower by the end of May, Luhnow is going to make some moves that will shake things up like we won't expect. Management has had the taste of success, and they are not going to let a few weak link slackers threaten another playoff run. Stumble Bums need not apply.
