Now for the most tragic news of the Day.....
Bourbon storage facility collapses in Kentucky, sending barrels crashing to ground....... A portion of a warehouse housing thousands of barrels of bourbon collapsed in Kentucky on Friday, sending roughly half of those barrels crashing to the ground. Bardstown Fire Chief Bill Mattingly said the storage facility at the Barton 1792 Distillery collapsed “length-wise” on Friday morning, and left the other half leaning and in danger of buckling, Kentucky Standard reported........ link

Summers of past......
I can remember as a child, not noticing the heat at all. Summertime fun dawn to dusk, without hardly breaking out a sweat. The room with the window unit, was just a cold spot in the house to me.
50 years later? If I'm an hour away from my AC??? Not happy.
God bless Willis Carrier and Dave Lennox.

I was just saying the same thing to my granddaughter a few days ago. She couldn't believe we didn't have air conditioning, or seatbelts in the car.

I can remember lying on the shelf area behind the rear seats in my parents' Ford LTD while we were travelling. Cops pulled up behind you and you just waved. A couple of times my dad slammed on the brakes and I was hurtled into the back of the front seats, coming to rest on the floor board ("Yes! Let's do that again!"). I can also remember having a gun rack in the back of my 1970 F-100 and having a rifle in the rack when I went to high school. My principal once came to the truck to admire my Remington Model 700 BDL. Times have changed, but I still have the Remington.

I played football and baseball in school, but between the seasons (if you weren't on the track team) we reported to the gym for a variety of games. A favorite was "commando basketball"; the only objective was to score. You didn't have to dribble and in-bounds/out-of-bounds didn't matter. There were no fouls; tackling, slapping, punching, tripping, etc. were common. It was funny to see a 270 pound O-lineman tuck the ball under his arm and go charging down the court while some 170 pound DB tried to stop him. One of the fat assistant coaches would sit in the bleachers while we played and only intervened if someone got mad enough to fight. It was a blast until one of the parents complained about the quantity of black eyes, twisted ankles, bruises and broken noses. From then on we played dodge ball.

Ohhh. Yeah.... Takes me back to about 1970. We used to play Dodge Ball at the end of the school year. Man you could vent off some pent up frustration by throwing a rubber ball at someone's head at 20 feet.

That reminds me when I was in high school I used to bring in my empty 30.06 cases and give them to my friend in homeroom who got me into reloading my ammunition, and pass them onto him, and he would bring them back loaded with no consequences.

Dodgeball true story. When I was in 10th Grade I was much smaller than all most every kid in school. I didn't gain any weight or height until I went to Nam. Back to Dodgeball, we were playing in the gym and it was thrown at our side and I run under a much tall student and he came down with his elbow and hit me in the head. I got a Skull Depression that I was rushed to Hospital in Houston for brain injuries. Had to have emergency Operation to lift the bone off my Brain. Spent two weeks in Hospital and after that they outlawed Dodgeball. Just think if that had happened in today's world I would be sitting pretty with the Lawsuit. Since we were dirt poor my Mother never did anything about it.
I was the Administrators nightmare. In 9th Grade in Shop, I was working with a Portable Miter Saw and somehow the base got loose and it jumps out of its base ran up my left arm requiring almost 2000 stitches to repair all the damage done to muscle and tendons and blood vessels. I was told I would be lucky to use my left again. I am left handed and after a couple few months, I was using my left with no problems. I was a Lefty.
After a while, I was told I couldn't join anything dangerous as I was always getting Hurt. Those are just two of things that happened in HS.

Gotta feel sorry for Fox being stuck with televising maybe the least watched sporting event spectacular in US history. The 2018 World Cup.
Boring sport was already at a disadvantage. Add the fact that USA couldn't even make it? What a disaster. I think this years spelling bee ratings is beating it.

Screwed up running day yesterday Nothing like (1) running out of propane while waiting on a slow cooked pork loin. (2) running to go get Popeyes so everyone could eat at our family pre- 4th get together (3) running of the mouth of smart assed kids who remind you 20 times of the event.

I'll try it again. Words can not express my anger this morning. I was checking out at (an unnamed store) when a young lady with a child ahead of me was struggling to find enough money to pay for her groceries/ supplies. I slipped a 20 on the floor, picked it up and stated... Miss, I think you dropped this. The checker lunged across the conveyor, snatched it out of my hand and said. "This fell out of the register!!!!!" I argued back and requested to check the film. Finally the Customer Service Mgr. came over explained that camera footage would not have checked the floor. Angrily, I finally spoke to the Store Mgr. who back his POS employees. Even when I explained. I was trying to help the girl out. Needless to say I will not visit (unnamed store) anytime ever again in the future.

That is so depressing. You can't do anything nice for a stranger anymore without some bystanding opportunist trying to cut-in and take advantage

Thanks... Maybe it was a ProBoards Super -Mod. Couple of possibilities: 1. A short between your chair and your keyboard 2. Sempersmom (low probability)

Anyone following the cave rescues of the Thai boys? Incredible response and coordination. I hope everyone comes out okay.
OTOH.... Wouldn't want to be the Youth Leader a few weeks from now. IF I remember correct Thai justice often comes at the end of a cane stick.

In the past year I've probably bought 6 pair of reading glasses, and I can't find a one of them. Convinced they've joined the lost socks from the dryer in a different dimension.

Until I needed better glasses I had dozens of Readers and I was always misplacing them. Since I went and got real Glasses Progressives etc. I haven't lost but one pair. At $260 a pop instead of $6-$7 a pop. I have become aware of where I lay them down.
