Perez has negative value. Even though he is a KC favorite is value is low. Saying that I could see a trade of some thing like: Perez, Barlow and Singer for Garcia, Maton, Meyers, Perez,Melendez, Lee and Gonzalez. This feels alot of holes for the Royals and keeps there cap down some. This also makes it were the Astros can clear some roster spots and still compete. This kinda trade doesn't happen very often but in this case it would work for both sides of the coin.we take all the money left on Perez contract and pave the way for Diaz to take over after Maldy goes Define negative value. Considering his age cost and slight decline plus injury past plus the fact he has 3 more years which would push him into the age of 36

Unpopular opinion: Bill Murray is a shiity actor and is not funny in any movie he has ever made. I have the same opinion of Will Ferrell. Yep, and the fat loser who died a few years back wasn't funny, either. Can't even remember his name.

If a movie has Will Ferrell in it, it would never be on my radar to watch. Then again Hollyweird has a lot of No Talent people getting into movies

Chas gonna get that platoon partner against righties?

Chas gonna get that platoon partner against righties? The thing is, he's actually not bad against all righthanders. He has a career .748 OPS against righthanded starters. He sucks against the righthanded relievers. Whereas he dominates lefthanded relievers. He's an everyday player. But late in games against bullpens with dominant righties, they need to look at possibly pulling him in for late-inning ABs for another option. Then put in Dubon for defense to finish out the game.

Finally got the results from VA on the Breathing test and Cat scan. No real problems other than the results of the Covid and gave me Durlera Spray which test showed an improvement in function. They will bring me back in 6 months to do a cat scan to see if the Nodule has changed size. Probably from the Covid but since I had smoked in the past that was the only thing of a little bit of concern. Then again I quit smoking Dec 31-Jan 1 midnight 1975

The guys here sum up the Gurriel situation perfectly. That doesn't change the fact that Yuli very well likely would be fine with some spot starts at other positions. The problem is that Diaz can only play 1B or C. Hensley looks like a great Aledmys replacement. But, we're only an infield injury away from Hensley being a starter. Then who replaces Hensley in that utility role? Do we have a young guy that can do that? Or are we looking at Dubon playing another 100 games with a 60 OPS+ like in 2022? I think we're okay on OF depth now. Tucker, Chas, Yordan, Brantley, Dubon, Meyers (maybe even Hensley can play some LF if needed) But our IF depth is very limited. We have a backup C/1B who might have a great bat (Diaz), and a utility player who can at least get on base well (Hensley). There's nothing after that without going back to Matijevic and assorted AAA players. Everybody says Profar stinks too much on infield defense (and would be more expensive than Yuli). So who is left that can put the ball in play decently, has experience at other infield positions, would be cost effective, has shown postseason success, and would be good with the clubhouse? We don't NEED to add someone before the season, but I feel like we'll need some more depth before the season is over. All of that is dependent on Yuli being okay with that role, of course.

1B: Abreu 2B: Altuve SS: Pena 3B: Bregman RF: Tucker CF: Chas LF: Brantley DH: Yordan C: Moldy
Bench: Hensley, Diaz, Dubon, Lee, Meyers
Framber McCullers Javier Urquidy Garcia Brown
Bullpen:
Pressly Montero Abreu Stanek Neris Martinez
I would start the year with that. But, I'd prefer to have Yuli in there on the bench with Dubon or Meyers stuffed in AAA until there is an injury. Rotate Brantley and Yordan in LF and DH. In place of some of the days off, let Altuve, Abreu, and Bregman DH 5-10 games each. Maldonado should not be catching more than 80 games. Plan to split the other 80 between Lee and Diaz, with Diaz maybe getting some work in at 1B when Abreu has a day off or DHs. If either/both produce well, start weaning the pitching staff off of Maldonado in favor of the young guys.
With any luck, Lee and Diaz are our catchers of the future, and we focus money on extensions and keeping the bullpen strong. Our too-early-to-know-but-look-promising OFers take over for Chas and Brantley as Brantley ages and Chas gets more expensive (unless Chas keeps improving).

I’m surprised as a person who always wants young players to get their shot, that you want a 39-year old dude coming off a bad season on both sides of the game to take playing time away from other players. That being said, I understand your points. Your stance just confuses me.

I'd be in total favor of that if there was one. Honestly I would have preferred Segura or Harris or Peterson.

I fear that a lot of you guys are overly smitten by Hensley, based on just a small sampling of playing time at the MLB level. It will not surprise me at all to see him fall off the planet this coming season and get sent down.

My father started smoking as a 20-year-old in Korea. Quit before he was 30. Died of lung cancer at 90. My wife was a champion tennis player. Cracked the tibial plateau in her left knee at age 18. Wound up with a total arthroplasty (knee replacement) at 44. And I have a deteriorating lumbar spine and a bum hip from playing football and baseball. I can tell you exactly when it’s gonna rain. Looking back I wish I’d never played football.

It’s not like the Astros will be married to any of the young guys if they don’t perform. They’ll roll until July to see what they have. If they underperform at least it buys time for some other minor leaguer to advance or we can pick up someone at the deadline.
