This from MLBTR:
“5:35 pm: Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle relays word from Click, who says he is still “in discussions” about his future.
4:45 pm: Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Baker and Click each received one-year contracts for 2023”
Click may not be willing to accept a one-year deal. I’m sure he can do better elsewhere.

How many GM jobs are still open in MLB?

Now they're saying Click hasn't agreed to anything. I don't think he has. Olpapa has a point, Click may be pissed and leave.

Benintendi is the exact player the Astros look for. He would fit perfect in LF.
Doesn't SO alot and gets on base. That's what the Astros need a on base machine.
We still need a massive bat behind Alveraz and I like Bell there but if Baker can convince Rizzo that would be awesome

This seems...really dumb, not to mention dangerous. Just invested a lot of money in a guy whose sole real job is to MASH. Get someone to play LF and let Yordan DH a lot. Protect those knees and that investment. Really, really weird.

www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/astros/article/James-Click-Astros-future-contract-17569385.php?utm_campaign=CMS%20Sharing%20Tools%20(Premium)&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referralMust-read article on the Click situation. Thing that strikes me the most is talking about how Crane is considered to be a hands-on guy. Originally that was something that was better about him than Drayton; he hired guys and largely left them alone to do their jobs. It makes me wonder if he's changed post-scandal, and is now more nosy/hands-on because of fears that things might go wrong again if he isn't more involved. Very concerning. Few franchises continue to thrive long-term with ownership second-guessing the front office and being too involved. I get the feeling that has been what has held the Yankees back; it was fine when they had such advantaged 20+ years ago, but thanks to Moneyball leveling the field as it has, now ownership is doing more harm than good, and they build a bunch of winning clubs that can't get over the hump.

The Astros have both 1B and DH, both power bat positions, to fill.

Just saw the news that both Mancini and Will Smith's options were not picked up making them both Free Agents.

Maybe they will use Uncle Mike in DH role. Since he's brittle

Maybe they will use Uncle Mike in DH role. Since he's brittle I am on board with that! Then have Yordan DH when Uncle Mike gets the day off and play Hensley or whomever the 4th OF is in LF.

I share your concern about Crane. It seems to me that the teams where the owner hires competent people to run the team and then gets out of their way are the teams that are most successful.

I don’t see Click agreeing to a one-year deal to play second fiddle to Dusty while Crane waits for Stearns to be free from his contract with the Brewers.

Now people are talking about how much sway Dusty and Reggie Jackson have with Crane. I am deeply concerned. Former players tend to make awful front office personnel. Tony LaRussa and Dave Stewart came into Arizona and torpedoed them for a good half-decade or more with their old school foolishness.

It would be a heck of a d-bag move if the Brewers refused to allow Stearns to leave his non-GM job a year early to be our GM, after we allowed him to leave his non-GM job here to go be their GM in the first place.

Whatever his methods or style are, we've seen an unprecedented amount of success for the franchise (and the city) under his ownership. If it was up to me I'd give Click a 3-year deal. But, no matter who is influencing him or not, the results Crane has gotten have been excellent. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Besides, Jackson, Bagwell, and others are consultants for a reason; they're supposed to give their opinions. Crane is obviously a capable guy who knows baseball, so I'm not going to lose sleep over him being at the helm. He's done everything necessary to get us from where we were to where we are.
