The WBC can't be blamed for this injury. He does more strenuous workouts in the gym or stretching before the game. His knee was going to give out either way, I'm convinced. I think he’ll end up being okay. I doubt the patella does any physical support work for the body. Wrong. |

I don’t know how I feel about the players saying the WBC is bigger than the World Series. I get the national pride aspect, but their countries didn’t lift them out of poverty either.

Patella is attached to the quadriceps (“Quad”), which is the 4 big muscles on the front of the thigh. You only use it when you sit, stand, run, kick, jump, uncross your legs, climb stairs or a ladder, etc. Loss of patellar function reduces the thigh’s strength by about 50%. Most people cannot even stand if the were to lose 50% thigh strength. So you tell me, will it have an effect on a professional athlete? |

Around 50% of adult males have at least a partially torn rotator cuff, for example, without knowing it. The odds increase if a person engages in certain strenuous activities such as years of throwing a baseball. One day even a minor further tear can complete the process. I suspect that whatever he tore (didn’t read the details) was hanging on by a thread and the additional sudden stress completed the tear. |

I could not believe that DeRosa sat on his hands and waited so long to remove Bard from the game. I mean good grief! Bard was nowhere near the strike zone. Two wild pitches and the HBP of Altuve. Had USA lost the game, it would have been on DeRosa. I don’t know what he was thinking. Surely he could see what we all were seeing and yet he did nothing. |
