Chas is beginning his rehab by hitting leadoff for the Hooks tonight.

Why does Chas need 6-7 games for missing two weeks? It's not like he's going to play when he comes back.

It was only a matter of time. He’s an ace version of McCullers. Well McCullers doesn’t play for 1/2 the price

Whitley sucked again tonight. Five earned runs in 4.1 IP. Three straight poor starts after two encouraging ones to start the year.

FYI: we had a major storm hit us Friday night, with straight line winds exceeding 80mph. We have had no electrical service since just before midnight Friday, and don’t expect it until at least Monday after 10 pm. Pray that my grandkids survive this…their boredom is liable to get them killed.

Dear Bortaz:
Since I’ve been banned I obviously can’t express that I hope you aren’t in the penitentiary this time next week. Also my dad had a cure for boredom; he’d find something for you to do, usually involving manual labor. We learned not to use the “b” word around him very quickly.
Oh, and I’ll send you a pic of my ring when I get home Wednesday.

Might be J.P. France time. He has a 2.33 ERA and 12.1 K/9 in five games with Sugar Land so far.

The amazing thing is that Abreu is on pace to drive in 70+ Runs with zero HRs.

So JV made his debut for the Mets today. He gave up back to back HRs in the first and took the loss.

The Astros ain’t the Astros. Altuve, Brantley and Chas out. Maldonado “hitting” (and fielding) even worse (as if it were possible ), SPs on the DL. What we’ve got right now is a bunch of minor leaguers parading as major leaguers and a seemingly washed-up former MVP at 1b (really hope I’m wrong) so when Bregman, Alvarez and Tucker don’t get it done we’ve basically got nothing but a pretty good bullpen. They’ll be lucky to maintain .500 ball if some sticks don’t show up. The Astros of the last 5 years would have likely swept the Giants.

Given all the stat nerds we presumably have in the organization, it couldn't have escaped someone's attention that Abreu's isolated power last season was the lowest of his career. Not to keep picking on Bagwell, but if he wanted him despite what the printouts said, the stories about him yelling at employees maybe did happen

You have to wonder how things might have been different if they hadn't axed Click. The Abreu signing feels like Bagwell, Reggie, Crane or whoever just really wanted the guy and may have just bowled over the stats department guys. In fairness, despite some power slump last year, he was still a really good and productive hitter. I doubt even stats-focused people imagined a drop off like this, unmitigated disaster so far. Abreu disaster, Montero overpay, Starling Marte (who Click apparently rebelled against Crane by not signing) has been terrible this year, meanwhile Jake Meyers is healthy and looking like the guy Click thought he could be. Things could still end up much differently, but Click has been vindicated so far.

Not to keep picking on Bagwell, but if he wanted him despite what the printouts said, the stories about him yelling at employees maybe did happen I supported the Abreu signing not realizing how badly his power dropped off last season, which is something our front office should have been well aware of before throwing a bunch of money at him while talking about Covid Season MVP blah blah blah. I still think letting go of Gurriel made sense given his age and lack of power. However, as I discussed with Ash, Abreu was going through the same stuff (despite the solid hard-hit stuff) and the dude isn’t exactly a spring chicken either. It just screams front office incompetence. You can’t blame Abreu for signing on that dotted line, though.

They said early on that they thought they could tweak his approach to get him to lift the ball more and take advantage of the Crawford Boxes. If this is the tweak it isn't working.
His swing appears to have virtually no lift at all. He'll hit the ball plenty hard sometimes but it's always right into the ground or a linedrive at best.

Line drives are fine, but the ground balls are a sorry sight for a guy so powerful and slow.

I just remember Bagwell getting all this praise for being a great resource to the organization for getting Abreu to sign. If it turns out he wasn't so great an acquisition, that praise needs to be revisited. As it would for anyone in a front-office job
