The OF picture in the Majors is looking better, and the minors are continuing that.
Joey Loperfido is making a mockery of AA so far. In seven games since his promotion, he's hitting .433/.500/.867 (1.367 OPS!) with 4 bombs and 13(!) RBI. And he's only struck out five times in those seven games, while drawing five walks. He's 4-for-4 in steal attempts between A+ and AA. He posted a really nice season last year (.316 BA with .900 OPS) but being a college guy against just the two A-ball levels, it was hard to get overly excited. If he keeps destroying AA though then he could be a legit prospect.
Colin Barber is having some success now that he's healthy again. Hitting .283 and drawing a bunch of walks for a .431 OBP. Needs to cut down on strikeouts.
Kenedy Corona hitting .286/.326/.667 since his promotion to AA.
Gilbert was 1-for-4 and has a 1.027 OPS. Melton hasn't recovered from a slow start yet, but his walk rate is nuts so he has a .370 OBP and is 3-for-3 in SB attempts.
Clifford's OPS is 1.006. Thanks to hitting and drawing a boatload of walks, he has a .506 OBP. He has reached via hit or walk in all 17 of his games so far. Just 19 years old against full-season competition, wow.
In some pitching news, Colton Gordon had a good night: 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 10 K.
Nolan DeVos has had some struggles, but he is striking everybody out. 23 punch outs in 14.2 innings (14.1 K/9!) Been limiting the damage but the walk rate (6.1 BB/9) needs work.

What’s Whitley’s draft pick bust ass up to these days?

What’s Whitley’s draft pick bust ass up to these days? Some improvement over recent seasons. Still missing a lot of bats and the walk rate is down a lot. Getting a good amount of ground balls, too. HR/FB% is crazy high so hopefully the ERA gets better if that normalizes.

Gilbert was 3-for-5 with a two-run bomb and a three-run bomb. He's hitting .342/.407/.644 with 5 doubles, 5 bombs, and a triple in 18 games.
Melton was 1-for-3, drew two walks, and stole three bases. Slowly starting to bring his average back up, but getting on-base a lot and contributing regardless. 15 walks and 6 steals in just 13 games.
Rhett Kouba has been really good in AA. He's allowed 1 or fewer earned runs in all but one of his outings so far. Last night he went 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 7 K. Currently a 2.70 ERA, 1.5 BB/9 and 12.3 K/9.

LOL Sugar Land won 16-13. Albuquerque might have the most insane hitter's park on the planet. 22 total hits for the Boys. Dirden was a glorious 4-for-5 with a slam (and 6 total RBI), hopefully that gets him going.
Corpus' game is still going, but Quincy Hamilton has two hits, including his first homer of the season. Colton Gordon started the game strong; 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 2 BB, 9 K
Gilbert was 2-for-4 with another double and another homer. Three long balls in his last nine plate appearances. We're fast approaching "why is he not in AA yet" territory.
Fayetteville almost threw a combined no-hitter. Broken up in the bottom of the 9th on a single. Two pitchers combined for the one-hit shutout. Nolan DeVos 5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, followed by Trey Dombroski 4.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 7 K
Ryan Clifford continues to cook. He was 2-for-3, 2 BB, 3 R, 0 strikeouts. He's hitting .342/.500(!)/.481. 19 years old, wow.
Tyler Whitaker has a pulse. Hitting .315 with a .415 OBP. He's been around for a while but was drafted very young and is still just 20.

Drew Gilbert is 3-for-9 since being called up to AA. All three hits are doubles. He has only struck out one time so far.
Melton was 3-for-4 tonight. After a rough start to the year in April (aside from drawing walks), he's hitting .296/.406/.444 in May.

For some more good news tonight, Jose Altuve is 0-for-9 so far in his rehab...
Whitley did well; 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K. Only run was on a solo bomb.
Korey Lee is hitting .457/.486/.771 (1.257 OPS!) this month.
Gilbert was 1-for-3. He's hitting .300 in his first six AA games.
Melton was 2-for-4. He has a .876 OPS this month with Asheville.
Clifford is off to an 0-for-15 start with Asheville sadly. He played 1B tonight for some reason.
Jose Fleury had a nice bounce back outing after getting torched last time: 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 6 K. He has a 1.96 ERA this year outside of that one bad game.

Gilbert was 1-for-4 with a walk
Rhett Kouba was good again: 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 7 K. ERA is down to 2.86.
Colton Gordon followed him: 4.0 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 4 K
Ryan Clifford 2-for-3, walk, single, two-run bomb.
Melton 1-for-5 with a three-run tater.

Ronel Blanco went 5.0 shutout with 7 strikeouts tonight. Sporting an 0.84 ERA since being sent to AAA.
Dirden has a hit in each of his last four games. After a terrible April he is hitting .361/.412/.738 in May.
Bligh Madris was 1-for-3 with a two-run bomb and two walks tonight. He is hitting, and for power, and drawing walks. .896 OPS so far.
Gilbert was 2-for-2 with 3 walks and an RBI. He is hitting .306 with a .419 OBP in 11 games in AA. He has struck out just 7 times in those games.
Will Wagner continues to look like a potential MLB piece. He was 2-for-4 with a walk tonight. OBP is .384. He is primarily playing 3B but he can and does play all the infield spots.
Ryan Clifford was 0-for-15 during his first five games after being promoted to A+ Asheville. He is 8-for-19 in the five games since.
I'm ready to jump on the Zach Dezenzo bandwagon at this point. Just the 12th round pick last year but really showing up so far. He has excellent raw power and hit really well in college, but had contact concerns. His strikeout rate has dropped nearly 10% this year. He was 3-for-5 tonight and is just annihilating A+ ball right now; .414/.483/.626. That's a 1.109 OPS. He's a solid third baseman and can play first and corner outfield as well, and even second a bit (he was a shortstop in college but he's really not great there). He's just barely in our Top 30 according to MLB.com but that seems low. Some people I respect think he should be Top 10 at this point. Infield prospects are few in our system right now but ZD looks like he could be a good one. I want to see him against AA pitching before I get too excited but it's great to have a legit 3B prospect in the system.

This guy is the real deal.

He can hang there.

Dezenzo is 2-for-6 with two walks in his first two games in AA.
The Corpus lineup is pretty stacked at this point. Kenedy Corona, Drew Gilbert, Joey Loperfido, Zach Dezenzo, Quincy Hamilton, and Colin Barber were their 1-through-6 tonight. Corpus scored nine runs.

I was just looking at the minor league stats for Whitley. Something that I noticed was that every runner that he left on scored. Maybe that is not true as I may have missed one or two but it seemed to me that every runner left on scored and those runs add up to most of the runs that he has allowed. That is kind of hard to do.

I noticed he’s a longball machine. He loses movement after about 30 pitches so when they leave him in too long he gets hit. No big surprise here except we do not seem to have figured it out yet.
