One of the guys we traded for Trey Mancini last year was the Orioles MiLB Pitcher of the Year this season... Who won last season? Mancini’s stellar defense play…that’s who.

Astros, Cubs, Yankees, A's, and Orioles have sent players to the Mesa Solar Sox for this year's Arizona Fall League. Sadly Jacob Melton is not one of the players we've sent. Not Will Wagner either, for some reason.
Astros have sent C Miguel Palma (#17), 1B Zach Dezenzo (#5), OF Kenedy Corona (#11), and pitchers Miguel Ullola (#22), Jaime Melendez (#27), Tyler Guilfoil, Ray Gaither, and A.J. Blubaugh.
Dezenzo cooled off after his promotion to AA, which indeed proved to be a tough test. Everything about his numbers took a hit...except his power and speed. He actually improved (slightly) his ISO and stole bases slightly more frequently. All in all, a 114 wRC+ with 14 HR and 16 SB in 63 games for the Hooks was a promising showing. He's played in two AFL games so far and has a long ball in each of them.
Guilfoil has been outperforming expectations. He was a reliever in college and produced huge numbers of strikeouts and popups while allowing very little hard/line drive contact, Astros have been trying him out as a starter as a pro and it's been going reasonably well. Massive strikeout numbers (13.7 K/9) in his minor league career so far, continuing the trend from his college days.
Gaither was an UDFA. He's moved to the bullpen now and posted nice strikeout numbers for the Hooks this year while struggling with walks.
Palma is a surprise here. He's pretty young for this league, not to mention he's not really a full-time catcher either. He has average or better skills across the board but is raw. Not the type of guy you usually see in the AFL.
Corona is probably a toolsy 4th outfielder. Legit glove, legs, and arm. I think he has more pop than he's given credit for, but I also don't think he'll hit enough to make much use of it. Jose Siri, pretty much.
I like seeing Blubaugh here. I'm a little higher on him than most. He needs some work but he has a change to be a solid starter. Like seeing him get tested after a solid showing in AA this year.
Ullola and Melendez have good stuff and upside but both underperformed this year thanks to serious command issues. Hopefully they can get those ironed out.

Dezenzo has a .778 OPS in the AFL. He's striking out a bunch, but drawing walks and hitting for power (8 XBH in 16 games).
A.J. Blubaugh has tossed 9.0 innings in 4 games. He has a 3.00 ERA and 13 strikeouts.
Don't ask how our other AFL guys are doing...

Here's a little thread about a prospect I like, and more importantly, an interesting look at what guys do in the off-season to try to improve:

A guy they spent some cash on that they saved in their first picks. Local kid from Galena Park High. High ceiling prep talent.
The ABL is A+ or AA level competition, depending on who you ask.

Korey Lee was 3-for-5 with two bombs tonight. Justin Dirden was 2-for-4 with a bomb, his third-straight game with a homer. Hitting .280/.362/.560 this month. Just 11 strikeouts in 14 June games. Drew Gilbert was finally playing the outfield tonight after a bunch of DH days due to "elbow discomfort." He was 1-for-4. Zach Dezenzo was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double. He's hitting .333/.447/.538 this month. His OPS has cooled off from his A-ball domination; from 1.102 down to a mere .974. Baseball America just recently pumped him up to #6 on our top prospects list. Joey Loperfido was 1-for-3 with two walks. He's hitting .297/.421/.539 with the Hooks. After a mediocre May, Colin Barber has rebounded with a nice June so far. He is 11-for-27 (including 4 homers) over his last 7 games and is hitting .318/.380/.659 on the month. Ryan Clifford was 2-for-4. He's posting a .820 OPS since his promotion to A+. Jacob Melton was 2-for-4, his third straight 2-hit game. As far as pitching goes, it’s really just Spaghetti and Colton Gordon? Bump
