Great effort though from Marwin. He was playing deep cause of the batter.

We won 3 of them last season with an even worse set of relief pitchers. Not much help from the pen though. It was our Sp. That's my point. Good teams find ways to win in the postseason.

We will not win a playoff series with this core of relief pitchers. I think we can win with these guys if Hinch would just get his head straight managing them. If he wants everyone to go one inning, then he has to establish a front-back routine If he wants everyone ready to go at any time, then he's got to get 2 innings out of them if the pitch count dictates. But he can't keep going back and forth like this cause everyone's confused now

Rondon had only thrown 10 pitches. He could and should have started the inning. ....and the walk and Gardner homer ties it. Yet another example of a manager violating the, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” principle. Why the hell can’t a pitcher pitch the 8th and 9th innings? Is there some law against it in the sabermetrics bible? Rondon's track record shows he is accurate for about 30 pitches. Some guys like Sipp, only 15. Rondon still had 20 good pitches left in the tank. No reason to pull him for a guy who had already thrown two days in a row.

So a HR with less than a 3rd chance of even being a hit ties the game. Welcome to new Yankee stadium! Terrible park.

This pen needs better management, and addition of 1 or 2 quality relievers like Herrera/Treinen or Britton/Hand if they are healthy.

I know we like to praise Strom and all for the great starting pitching, but what about this ineffective bullpen? For a few years now, they can’t develop a guaranteed buttkicker to close out games. Everyone is fine and dandy in the 7th and 8th, but no one can get those last three outs without scaring the life out of the fans.

The bullpen blew it, but again, our offense failed to do much with their opportunities.

I don't know many examples in history of developing a long-term effective MLB closer. More often than not you either have closer stuff, or you don't The only developed closers I can think of are HOFers like Eckersley and Smoltz Verlander is your best bet for developing a closer. We should hold on to that guy
