Even paying $1 to sit on the IL for 2 years is a waste of $1 Brantley not playing >>>>> Maldonado playing Since Maldonado was worth negative 1.2 WAR last year, this is literally true.

Apparently the methodology of calculating Contracts with deferred money in this is as complicated as figuring out how much of the money received in social security is counted as taxable. Ohtani's contract only counts as about 46 million per year due to the current value of the monies received. So the post that I made earlier about how that stuff works was apparently wrong. What I said in response to a post by Ashitaka was wrong. What is posted now is that it only counts as 46 million per year. My apologies.

What a waste it was to see Maldonado stink up the place for a whole year while Yainer handed out Gatorade to his teammates. There was just so much mismanagement it was almost comical. Yainer riding the pine behind Maldonado so much was one thing, but Yainer has played 1B, LF, and RF in the minors and has a great arm. Yet with Abreu being a shell and Brantley being hurt (leading to a ton of Dubon and Julks etc.) Dusty still couldn't find ABs for him. What a joke.

When he actually starts receiving the bulk of his money in 10 years, he may not be paying CA taxes anymore cause he might be living in Japan.

California will probably sue him saying the money was made will he lived there.

Im surprised thinfs have been so quiet now that Ohtani is done. I figured there would be some quick dominos to fall.

As for Ohtani’s deferred money, I get what they’re doing and also the reduction in cap hit. So I don’t think it’s a violation of the CBA or anything. But it rankles me nevertheless. The cap hit should be $70M/yr regardless of creative accounting.

I wonder if we would have any interest in Liam Hendriks. He had TJS in August and is hoping to get back by about the same time next season. Crane wanted him badly back before he signed with the White Sox. Might be able to give him a low base with incentives/options etc. and hope you get an elite late game reliever at a steep discount.

I know Thomas was disappointed when the Beer man was involved in the deal.

I know Thomas was disappointed when the Beer man was involved in the deal. Josh Rojas, the lesser of the four prospects in that package, has actually been the best guy of the bunch so far. He's an average hitter and plays multiple positions. He's with Seattle now. Seth Beer really struggles in the Majors in 2022. Did well in AA this year but then fell apart in AAA. Jury is still out but it's not looking good for him. J.B. Bukauskas is now a full time reliever, which was expected. Did well in AAA last year and in a small sample with the Brewers MLB club. Could break out, or could get injured and fizzle into nothing. Corbin Martin was looking decent in his return from TJS but then his shoulder blew up and he needed more surgery. Hopefully he can finally get healthy.

Dodgers gave up six years of a backup outfielder and five years of a good pitcher for one year of a great pitcher and one (or two) years of a a better backup outfielder. Glasnow reportedly will immediately sign an extension with the Dodgers and not hit the market next off-season.
This move is so Rays.

Are we really considering trading Framber? Since Crane has a propensity to let players go for nothing, they might as well trade him.

White Sox signed Chuckie Robinson to catch for them in AAA. That makes three ex-Astros catchers now (Lee, Stassi, Robinson).
