Nationals just drafted a guy named Sir Jamison Jones. Yes, his actual name. Mother gave him "Sir" for a first name. I wonder if he's blaq...?

Sherwin is going to be a Twine fan, with the Indian connection.
But overall, based on what I have read, this draft for the Astros was meh. We will see in about 3-5 years if I was way wrong.

Yeah, we didn't have the bonus pool to do something flashy and lost the second round pick because of Hader. Safe was the right course. Despite that, there is definitely upside and not just high floor back-end starter types here. It's probably not as good a class overall as last year's but still pretty good IMO. If they can sign the 20th round pick by some miracle it will get much better.

We need some immediate fresh blood in the upper levels to where we don't have to rush as many players. Maybe next year they can focus on more high school higher potential upside guys.

I would be surprised. They're riskier than college guys. And I think in general it's going to be harder to get high school guys to forego college now that colleges are actually going to start paying guys. The instant money of the signing bonus will lose some of it's luster. If teams want to lure prep players they're going to need to loosen or even do away with the bonus structure and limits they put in place.

Undrafted free agent signing: x.com/EephusTosser/status/1814357501854490948"The Houston Astros have signed Danny Trehey, RHP, Florida Atlantic. Already 23, but an interesting pitcher. Misses bats with SL and CH, lots of weak contact. Excellent RP vs RHH."

Dezenzo was promoted and played his first ever AAA game last night. He was 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and was a triple short of the cycle.

Jacob Melton has been promoted to the AAA Sugarland Space Cowboys. I'm trying to figure out if this makes him being traded more or less likely. GMs tend to toss the previous regimes prospects out like junk.

However, I worry it’s also a show to other teams as trade bait. Especially if he does very well at AAA.

If so, that makes sense to promote. However, I worry it’s also a show to other teams as trade bait. Especially if he does very well at AAA. I feel like it's too late for that. The deadline is less than a week away. I'm not sure a team is going to look at less than a week of AAA games and change their mind for the better. And there's no less of a risk of him not adjusting well right out of the gate and hurting his stock as their is a chance he would take off and raise it. His OPS was barely over .700 during July for AA and the month before he hit under .200, so it's not like he was lighting the world on fire. It's weird timing and I can't figure it all out. FWIW he was 2-for-5 with a walk and a double in his debut in AAA last night.

Trey Dombroski and Ethan Pecko have been promoted to AA. Dombroski was a 2022 pick and has been developing nicely, likely backend starter type. Pecko was drafted just last year, stuff is not great but made a lot out of it with a massive 13.5 K/9 in A+ ball, AA will be a big test.

I feel like the draft is just cannon fodder for mediocre “window is still open” trades. Hard to get excited about it.

Today was the signing deadline. Astros signed all their picks, except for Ky McGary, who was never going to sign for what they could offer him anyway. He was a backup in case guys who had some other options like Powell or Wagner did not sign.
