The end result is what matters to me. Have to hope it continues to be good.

"Bloss leads this fantastic package for Toronto, and while Bloss was ranked as Houston’s No. 9 prospect entering the season, a breakout campaign had him about to jump to No. 2 in MLB Pipeline’s midseason update. In Toronto, he will immediately become the Blue Jays’ No. 3 prospect." -- MLB.com

The Astros got fleeced. Always on the short end of giving up multiple players or prospects for one. This pitcher isn't worth what they gave up.

Pedro Leon has been called up to take Loperfido'S place.
He'd better be good.

I hope they have an industrial sized can of Astros Pitching Magic on the shelf. They got someone who’ll eat innings but some of those innings are big enough to choke a horse.
Eh, what do I know. Maybe we’ll win the WS because of him and those three will flame out. But I doubt it.

It feels like ever since Click didn't want to rent Starling Marte, Crane's been on this myopic quest to prove that rentals are good management strategy. He wanted a GM who wouldn't be shy about pulling the trigger on them, but things are starting to resemble when Tal ran the front office

There’s just no angle where this trade makes any sense.

If the Astros would have offered this same deal to Toronto to Tampa, would they have gotten Paredes?

I can't help but hear that little voice in the back of my mind: "They could have signed Bauer for nothing but they did this deal instead."

Probably Melton, Blubaugh, and Matthews. Probably so. All jokes aside, it’s High A right-hander Kelly Austin.

Pennant or bust with the Kikuchi move. If it helps us win at least a pennant, I'm good with it. I don't even care much about losing Wagner and Loperfido, but I think losing Bloss for just 3 months is confusing at best.
And I'm not sure how this Ferguson guy is an improvement over King...

Another way to look at this that has a lot of truth to it.

Caleb Ferguson is a solid enough LH reliever. As for him vs. King, he misses more bats, has slightly better command, and better raw stuff as well (averages 93-94 MPH). He has more of a track record, too, with a solid 3.66 ERA in almost 250 MLB innings. The biggest upgrade point though is that for his career his splits are nearly identical; he is equally solid against RHB as he is LHB, important now that the LOOGY is dead. In fact, he's been a touch better against RHB than lefties. So this is a solid rental upgrade.
Kelly Austin was an undrafted free agent last year. He's also a straight reliever. He's shown some nice signs in High-A but is still a bit of a lottery ticket. In all likelihood he will never be more significant than, well, a middle reliever like Ferguson. The cash is a bigger loss, but international signings take a looooong time to develop and the Astros have done a whole lot with very little on that front (Framber, Javier, etc.). It was quite a lot of cash, though...
All in all a much more palatable trade. Ferguson, if nothing else, is a present upgrade over King, who can now have some more time to develop.

BTW I was wrong, Yandy Diaz has a $12 million club option for 2026. So whoever gets him will have him for two years beyond this. Or just one if he falls apart or something.

And in fairness, it should be noted that Matthews has played five days in a row. It wouldn't be unusual for it to just be a day off. They don't ride the minor leaguers like they're Bregman.
