55-28 .663 winning percentage On pace for 107 wins. Winning streak of 3 games. 3.5 games up over Seattle for the division. .5 games behind Boston for overall lead. 1st in run differential at +175. 1st in runs scored. 1st in runs allowed. Team OPS+: 121 Team ERA+: 132
Top-5 WAR Players:
1. Altuve 4.1 2. Bregman 3.5 3. Verlander 3.5 4. Correa 2.9 5. Cole 2.4
McCullers great game got his ERA down to 3.55 (105 ERA+). Marisnick's OPS+ is up to 75 (it was well below 40 not that long ago).
Cole vs. Font
Font has been just awful on paper so this looks like a huge mismatch. However the offense is a little power and RISP cold lately so you never know. Altuve, Reddick, Bregman, White, and Kemp are getting on base pretty well, but we need to see some more power from people besides Bregman. We had 8 hits, 4 walks, and a HBP yesterday and only managed one solo HR. No bueno.

Springer and McCann contributed to the bad hitting with RISP. I always say don’t worry about streaky Springer, but he is laboring a lot recently. Something needs to give.

Springer needs to sit for a couple of days, but, it won't happen with Correa and Yuli both out. McCann needs to learn NOT to pull every pitch into the shift that is always used on him.

Well, he hit it the other way yesterday, which could’ve been an RBI double had Kiermaier not pulled the usual Jesus act and caught the ball.

Yeah McCann actually appeared a couple times to be trying to push the ball to center or left instead of just yanking everything.

McCann, Stassi, and Springer are all due to have their fortunes at the plate improve. They have battled BABIPs in the .185 to .210 range over the past month, but that never holds up forever. With his speed and (as Coach points out) his usual pull tendency, McCann's BABIP ought to be at least .230, while for Stassi .290 is reasonable and Springer should be a bit over .300.
McCann seems to go through spells where he can hit up the middle or to the opposite field, but they last a couple weeks and he reverts to pulling the ball.
Remember when McCann had hit so poorly in spring training, and sat out of ST games a couple of weeks? I started to suspect he'd struggle at the plate from that time.

If George and McCann start going up the middle and to the opposite fieild, their hitting should improve......We are wasting too many scoring opportunities by hitting into DP.s.

I'm not asking for a night off for him at this point. I think he's about to break out. But yes, a manager can never make everybody happy. Course 4th OFers can singlehandedly win games and some people still want them demoted. *shrug*

When your bench is McCann, Springer, and White, you know you have a good team. I hope Reed shows more than he did the other times he's been called up......I would have rather seen Tucker than Perez. Ou pen is not over-worked so why Perez? Tucker has earned a chance.

Ou pen is not over-worked so why Perez? Tucker has earned a chance. I doubt the Astros want to waste a year of control on him right now when they don't need to. They can call up Tucker in September, wait until mid May next year and still get that extra year of arbitration on him. Calling him up now and the Astros lose that.
They are in no rush to promote him right now and thinking long term I'm sure. Only way he gets called up now is if Springer was out for an extended period of time.
