61-32 .656 winning percentage (on pace for 106 wins) 3 games up in the division over Seattle. 2.5 games behind Boston for the overall lead (currently tied for 2nd with NYY) 1st in run differential at +186. Team OPS+: 118 Team ERA+: 134
Top-5 WAR Players:
1. Altuve 4.6 2. Bregman 4.1 3. Verlander 3.7 4. Correa 2.8 5. Cole 2.8
That says a little about our current team when Correa hasn't played in like two weeks but is still our 3rd best position player (using WAR).
Verlander vs. Manaea
With Verlander's lack of run support and Manaea being pretty good, I don't expect much offense again tonight. At least let's try to avoid the mental errors. Be aggressive on the basepaths, move runners, play some small ball, and don't hit anything towards 3B.

Manaea has pretty much dominated all of the Astros except for Springer and Gattis. Altuve with only a career .154 AVG in 26 ABs against him. Yikes. Marwin .188 in 16 ABs. Bregman .200 in 15 ABs.
Fortunately, outside of Khris Davis, there aren't any big threats against Verlander either.

If Verlander wants to IBB Davis, it's all right with me.

for what it's worth, Fedo's lineout to short yesterday had a hit probability of 79%. He scalded that ball at over 108 mph off the bat.
Also, Tucker's flyout in the 5th had a hit probability of 61%. Maybe, if one or both of those had fallen, the Astros would have climbed back into the game. Eventually luck will even out for them.
Piscotty's home run off Peacock had a hit probability of only 17% and most ball parks would have held it.

Springer hosted a charity bowling event the other day -- I'm sure for a great cause, just as he does to help kids with speech impediments.
But I do wonder to what extent all these community service activities impact the Astros' play at home. If a batter is struggling at the plate, shouldn't he be spending more time in the batting cages and less time out bowling and fundraising?

I think the impact has to be minimal.

They probably know how it happened. They don't have to tell us anything. All that matters is when he can come back.

Would not surprise me as it would continue the "rest" he gives players when it doesn't make sense. Resting Yuli last night made no sense.

I hope Tucker gets some rest tonight being Manaea(LHP), is starting. Maybe Jake makes it back in time to start or Kemp, but it’s lefty on lefty with Kemp.

Cole to the Bereavement list. No details.
WARNING! BAD JOKE TO FOLLOW!
LOOK AWAY if you have heart conditions.
Could he be mourning the loss of the Astros Offense?

Hinch said Tucker would be the regular left fielder and it seems like he meant it. Too early to start benching him.

It took Bregman about 10 games to catch up to the Majors. Tucker is worth a couple of weeks. If he's not beginning to come around within a week after the all star break, then we need to look at other options.

Why is Marisnick in the lineup? He’s hitting .211 vs. Manaea in 19 AB’s. Reddick at .500 in 6 AB’s.

I’ve never seen a consistently unreliable player like Jake Marisnick being given so many chances. It’s not like the Astros are 30 games under .500 and can’t do any better.
