So Greg Holland went to the Cards for $14 million on a one year deal. Sounds like an overpay to me. I know many people wanted to see him on the Astros. Personally, I can see how he would have added value, but I would have pegged his value at about $6 million not 14. So it doesn't really disappoint me that Luhnow did not outbid the Cards for this pitcher.

All I can say is that they must of been desperate.

Yeah, A team should have at least gotten a 2 year deal, with a 3rd year team option for Holland...Paying $14M and losing a draft pick was not a good move....I wonder if Luhnow was interested; and if so, what was he offering?

Cards have Gregerson and Holland now; should help them out, but the financial hit they took was rather high.
Rivero, Giles, and Jansen have all gotten hit hard this week. Maybe some of last year's Top 20 relievers will not be in the Top 30 this year.

Maybe that is why they pulled the trigger on Holland.

The Orioles are in no position to be making unreasonable demands for Britton. Adam Jones, Machado, Britton and Brach are all free agents next offseason. That team is going to crumble after this season. The rebuild that Angelos has refused to face is going to be forced on him. That said, whether that old codger can figure this out or not is anybody’s guess. If Britton comes back strong, I think he would be a good addition to the Astros.

Pop-A-Squat Giles looked okay today, but I still don't trust him....LH Britton, come trade deadline, would be a great addition for the team.

I really like Britton but do not trust the Os. They are senile. I would like to sign Britton this off season and trade during the year for Realmuto.

I don't have much confidence in Giles, but, if I remember correctly, he is usually more effective when he comes in with the game not being already decided. I do agree with trying to add Britton if they will accept a reasonable offer.

You mentioning Realmuto made me think of another person from the old board who hasn’t arrived yet. i can’t recall his handle, but he was always coming up with these trade rumors that he could not provide a link to. He would post these rumors in such a way that it sounded like he had inside information. Some of us referred to him as Voodoo. He was enamored with Realmuto. Who was that guy?

The last report i saw on Britton indicated that he could be back from his achilles injury by early June. That would give plenty time to see if he is healthy and pitching effectively before the trade deadline.

If we could add the 2016 version of Britton to our bullpen, it would be a great move.

Betances, Chapman, Rivero, and Jansen have all joined Ken Giles as top relievers from 2017 who have had a rough start to 2018. Kimbrel still looks good, and Osuna has been spotless so far. But in general the past results from last year haven't been very good predictors of results this year. I'd like to wait till the All Star Break and see who has had a hot hand. Probably will include some guys we rarely if ever hear of. E Pagan, T Hildenberger, M Givens, W Saupold... I could see any of those guys having big years. One or two might even be on the trading block come July.

Voodoo was right once.
Back in the day there was a "Where is Jose Altuve" thread someone started because he wasn't in any minor league box scores for several days and there were no injury reports about him. Then Voodoo claims he heard Altuve was in Houston and they were about to trade Keppinger to make room for him. Other posters thought Voodoo was being ridiculous and mocked him...and then a few days later Keppinger was traded and Altuve was added to big-league roster.

In fairness to him, he did say sane things like CarGo would be a foolish acquisition and that the Astros would address a need with Realmuto.
