Any value in looking at Matt Holliday as a DH signing? Obviously he's not what he used to be, but he is only one year away from being an above-average offensive producer. He could probably be signed for next to nothing if it got him another year in the league and a chance at another ring. He has a career .855 OPS at MMP.
$1-2 million for a borderline HoF player to try and close out his career on a winner?

If the asking price is within reason, come trade deadline, anyone against trading for Josh Donaldson or Nelson Cruz. If the Jays and/or Mariners are out of contention, come trade deadline, then they should be interested in trading both of those players, given their age and because they are pending FAs....As of right now, both the Jays and Mariners are 14-10, so if that winning percentage continues, then they will not be on the trade block... At least with Beltre, the age makes the nagging injuries more understandable. It seems like Donaldson is always hurt. I wouldn’t mind Cruz as a DH despite the whiffs. I blanked on Beltre, and I am a fan of his....They all are pending FAs....but now that you mentioned Beltre...I would take Beltre, Donaldson and then Cruz....but do you think the Rangers would do Beltre a solid, to go play for the Astros.

Yeah, it is a shame...I didn't even think of Beltre in the first place, because of the Ranger factor...Well he is a pending FA, so maybe in the offseason....he sure does not play like a 39 year old.

Man, Beltrán fooled them badly, though. All of a sudden, he couldn’t hit here. What if Beltre is the same way?

Beltran was trending down already. He did what he was brought in to do and that was to provide veteran leadership. If he had a comeback year, that would have been gravy. Beltre would be the same.

It's weird the way Beltrán had the season Marwin was supposed to have, and Marwin had the season Beltrán was supposed to have

Dear Jeff Luhnow, please do not sign ANY 39 year old players.
Love, Bortaz
PS. Especially for a position where we already have one of the best in the league playing.

No, people on this forum are wanting to put Beltre in every position except pitcher and DH for some reason. I think Beltre would be great as a 1B or DH. The same goes for Gurriel. I’m just tired of Gattis.

Like I said, I don’t have a problem with Gattis the person. I just don’t care for Gattis the ballplayer. With RISP, I have as much faith in him as Marisnick.

I’m just tired of Gattis. I am sick of Gattis and I'm getting sick of Keuchel's inconsistency. He hasn't been reliable since his Cy Young year. I am sure some will disagree but I'd ship him and Gattis in a deal for a good bat. McHugh can step into his spot in the rotation.

Keuchel for Hader, Santana (would rather have Shaw), and their #2 prospect, RHP Corbin Burnes.

I'm gonna have to agree with this sentimentAs a general rule, I would agree. But Beltre hasn't shown that he's falling off yet. At least not in OBP. Power is tailing off a little. But in the 9th hole, we just need people on base and the ability to keep the train moving. He's still doing that this year. And I wouldn't replace Bregman. He replaces the weakest players in our lineup. That would be Gattis or Fisher, moving players if necessary. If you replace Gattis, then you can still replace Fisher with Tucker when he's ready. That would leave this lineup potentially: 1. Springer CF 328 OBP 117 OPS+ 2. Altuve 2B 395 OBP 129 OPS+ 3. Correa SS 400 OBP 171 OPS+ 4. Reddick RF 360 OBP 144 OPS+ 5. McCann C 415 OBP 146 OPS+ 6. Beltre DH 366 OBP 115 OPS+ 7. Bregman 3B 350 OBP 104 OPS+ 8. Guriel 1B 302 OBP 98 OPS+ 9. Tucker LF 352 OBP 731 OPS (plus not available) Bench Stassi 372 OBP 145 OPS+ Gonzales 323 OBP 86 OPS+ Gattis 294 OBP 76 OPS+ Fisher 224 OBP 64 OPS+ Marisnick 133 OBP OPS+ 15

So, you think the shit-ass Rangers, who wouldn't let us move games due to the hurricane, would trade their franchise player (and best hitter), soon to be HOFer, to a division rival---for cheap?

It’s a pipe dream for the Astros to complete a beneficial trade with Arlington. I do, however, think that he won’t be traded for much to some other team.

Sounds funny, but if Martes was doing better in the minors, then no...And Bukkake is not doing well either...Whitley is suspended for 50 games...If we can get great value for Keuchel, then I am not opposed to trading him....I don't think he is coming back...and I like Hader...Santana is expendable to them...and if Corbin Burnes has #3 type of stuff, then I would make the trade...maybe the Astros could get more, because of the whole Cy Young thing....
