Jake is fine for what he should be. We have better cheaper options that can do what he does though.

Perfect. Maybe we can pick up Robinson Cano (#5). He will definitely help our playoff chances this year. Whoops!

MLb.com has suggested the Padres want a young, controllable, everyday third baseman like Rafael Devers in exchange for Brad Hand. It makes me wonder if Davis might go there -- Devers is hitting for .750 OPS over his career, which will almost certainly be topped by Davis.
"Red Sox looking to upgrade bullpen; Hand an option? June 20: The Red Sox are interested in bolstering their relief corps, according to MLB Network insider Jon Paul Morosi, and Padres closer Brad Hand may be a target for the club.
However, San Diego's asking price for Hand could be prohibitive. Per Morosi, the Padres are expected to seek a young everyday player, such as Rafael Devers, in exchange for the left-hander.
Hand, who has a National League-leading 21 saves with a 2.43 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP this season, is signed through 2020 with a team option for 2021, so the Padres are in no rush to deal him."
I don't see letting Davis go cause much pain to the Astros system.

Moustakas is another guy on that "League Leading Hitters at MMP" list who is available. Does it make sense to get him as insurance against Gattis reverting to Bad Gattis?

We have an awful lot of players eligible for rule 5 at the end of the season. You might as well get something for them before they go.

Moustakas ticks the box of hitting RHP well; OPS over .850 against righties this year.
His two most recent MMP home runs came off of McCullers and Fister. He's also had success against Fiers, Feldman, Sipp, and a few others.
One possibility, since Gattis has been so bad at MMP, is that Moustakas becomes the "Home DH" and Gattis the "Away DH". Moustakas could relieve Bregman or Gurriel at 1B/3B on rest days or in special situations too.

Kershaw may opt out of contract after 2018 season award bonuses: $1M for Cy Young. $0.5M for 2nd/3rd in vote assignment bonus: $3M if traded during off-season if traded during season, may void deal after World Series if traded during off-season, may void deal after one season
Just a possiblility to replace Keuchel/Morton

I've always liked Osuna, but some'd probly have a problem with his arrest history I've always liked Osuna, but he's suspended for 75 games

I didn't know anything about Osuna's personal life when I suggested he might be a trade target.
If the accusations are true, that's horrible. Then again, I also believe it's important to let people have a fair trial (if it's a criminal matter) and a fair hearing or appeal process (if it's a violation of MLB rules but not the law). There is such a thing as false accusation.

I can't remember what the charge is (I think it's assault) but this is likely a seriousness of the charge sanction. I would assume there's enough evidence for a grand jury to convene at this point .. not knowing anything about law. Maybe I should post a link to the story where I found it

OK he's been indicted. I guess that triggered the league's domestic violence policy

Besides, assault (if he’s found guilty) gives me questions about the guy’s mental fortitude.

It 's an old joke that a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich if they choose to. The standard on paper is rarely met in practice.
That's why a politically motivated Special Prosecutor is so dangerous.

interesting to see mlb.com talking about Stammen and Yates as alternative Padres relievers to trade for. Those guys have one of the best pens in MLB but it's really the only thing they have going for them.

Britton didn’t help his trade value any last night vs Atlanta: 0.1 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 0 K, Hit a batter.

I am probably one of the few here that thinks we need a more consistent Big Bat that is comparative to Correa or Springer. Springer and Correa both came up with a chance to put the Astros on the board on more than one occasion. Isn't that their Job.
