If we follow the policy of hoarding prospects instead of getting a top reliever, we will pay for it in the playoffs.

If we follow the policy of giving top prospects for broken down formerly great reliever that are starting to show a sign of life then we become a laughing stock.

Castellonos for short term fix. But Rosario for the long term. Which direction to go and what package?
Then it circles back around. Its 25 million to McCann and Gattis. You could afford to make a move for a long term Catcher weather it be Ramos for around 10 million a year for 3 yrs.
Or go for Realmuto for 15million per....
So think about that?

Have any of you guys seen the Story on MBL about Jose Martinez of the Cardinals? What do you think of getting him and what would it cost. He has several years left I think but he really is only mainly a DH and occasional 1st base.

What a bummer. Baltimore hasn't been this bad since that season 30 years ago when they lost their first 21 games

I saw that suggestion and wondered why the excitement for a 30 year old minor league journeyman who has less than 700 career PA in the MLB. He is not a major piece, though he could function as insurance as a DH for next year. But they talk like teams are willing to give them top prospects for a Bench player (at least for teams hoping to go deep into the playoffs.)
I would trade Rule 5 players and no more.

Here is a look at the starters who the team would have to replace in the next 5 years..., if none of them signed an extension..., the season they would have to be replaced, and the prospect we have in our Top 30 currently who might replace them. In parenthesis beside the starters name is the season they will have to be replaced. In parenthesis beside the prospect’s name is the season they are projected to debut in ML baseball:
C - McCann (2019) ... Stubbs ((2019) 1B - Yuli (2021) ... Alvarez (2020) 2B - Altuve ... (2025) SS - Correa (2022) ... Nova (2021) 3B - Bregman (2023) ... Joe Perez (2021) LF - Tucker CF - Springer (2021) ... Gilberto Celestino (2021) RF - Reddick (2021) ... Matijevic (2020) ..... actually Tucker would move to RF and Matijevic would take over in LF
SP - Keuchel (2019), Morton (2019), Verlander (2020), Cole (2020), McCullers (2022) ...... Cionel Perez (already in ML), Forrest Whitley (2019), Bukauskus (2020), Alcala (2020), Paulino (already debuted), Corbin Martin 2020), Hector Perez (2020), Armenteros (2018), Solis (2021), Valdez (2019), Deetz (2018, Cristian Javier (2020), Brett Adcock (2020)
RP - Sipp (2019) McHugh (2020), Peacock (2020), Rondon (2020), Smith (2020), Harris (2019), Devenski (2022) ...... Gustave (already debuted), Riley Ferrell (2018), Josh James (2019), Adcock, Martin, Bukauskus, Valdez, Deetz Javier, Bailey, Hector Perez, Cionel Perez, Alcala

I would not give any top prospedts for Britton due to him being an often-injured rental, I would offer a top 10 not named Whitley or Tucker in a deal for Iglesius.

No way alveraz for Britton. ALVERAZ and prospects for Rosario. What are you seeing in Rosario that I'm not? Rosario would be better def in lf plus his bat is on point. But the thing would be his arb years are just as long as tuckers and alveraz so he would be ideal trade target due to time

Good numbers, but only 30 innings.

So a package compared to the one Harrera recovered from the Nationals is what it would take for Britton.... Myles Straw, David Paulino and Jandel Gustave?

Latest on Britton from MLBTR:
“8:44pm: It’s “at least” a six-team race for Britton, Jon Heyman of Fancred tweets.
8:14pm: The Orioles are seeking a return equal to or better than the one the Royals received for reliever Kelvin Herrera in a trade last month, Buster Olney of ESPN reports. Washington acquired Herrera for three prospects, though none ranked among the Nationals’ absolute best farmhands at the time.
7:39pm: Both the Cubs and the Astros “are trying to match up prospects with the Orioles,” Jerry Crasnick of ESPN tweets. The Dodgers are also among those who would like to acquire Britton, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports, though Rosenthal notes that it may be difficult because of LA’s desire to stay under the luxury-tax threshold. No matter where Britton goes, the O’s hope to make a deal happen within the next few days, Crasnick adds.”
If it comes down to the Astros and Cubs, Houston has a strong enough farm system that they should be able to beat any deal the Cubs can offer if neither team trades any of their best prospects.

If Luhnow wants Britton as much as we have heard, he will get him. Could be by the time we get to Coors Field. If this happens, it will be interesting to see who he replaces in the pen.
