That was a good trade by the Red Sox...It didn't cost them much, and Eovaldi can be a spot starter or long inning relief for the rest of the year. He kicked our butts for a few innings before we started catching up to him.

Luhnow needs to make a move, a good move before the 31st.

I see a similar scenario as last year........Yanks, Red Sox, and Indians make moves to improve their pens......Luhnow drags his ass and ends up with Liriano and Clippard. Neither was an upgrade over anyone we had. I hope we are not seeing a repeat performance. That is my main complaint with Luhnow....dragging his feet while other teams get guys we could use. I hope he's doing more than I am thinking. Dragged his ass to a world championship. yes, he did due to the last second acquisition of Verlander on August 31. It sure wasn't due to getting Liriano and Clippard. I trust his judgment, but, I am often without patience.

Luhnow is a nine dimensional chess player in a league of checker rubes. His 80-90% right success rate in decision making thus far gives me confidence he knows what he is doing. I hope you are right and my impatience is showing due to watching other playoff teams improve while we have done nothing.......I hope he has something up his sleeve like reeling in Realmuto. He MUST improve the pen. Getting Realmuto would get us a top catcher and another bat.

You ever thought that when a team comes out and says I will not trade this prospect it's like them pestering? Maybe trying to sell certain prospects higher then others?? Idk did you mean pestering or posturing? Posturing I dont know why it keeps auto correcting. I have a feeling 1 or even 2 of those top guys will be gone. I dont know why but it just keeps circling around and around. Why come out in public and announce it? Why? Why aren't the other teams biting on our 4 threw 30? Why? It's crazy to think players like Realmuto or even Degrom couldnt be had. But the problem is why are there talks about those players then it goes dormant and then boom we nab them? Why? Think about it. Cole was talked about 2 to 3 yrs ago as a guy they would love to get but doubt they would get or even try for then this year boom they get him. Verlander was talked about like that aswell but it was even shorter lived and alot of us forgot about it then last seconds....... boom he is an Astro.... Realmuto was talked about in the offseason. Then dormant again.... nothing even mentioning him with Astros in a paragraph much less a sentance that wasn't written by an Astros writer. Could this be that one trade that makes the league go in shock? ?? God I hope so

It even seems like mlb network is saying the Astros cant just set there and do nothing. This was Cashman blocking the Astros from getting what could essentially have put them over the top.
So was it on purpose who knows, but what do they do next?? The top teams are Red Sox. Yankees. And Astros.
Only 1 of them will get to play for the World series. 1 of them wont even make it to the final 2. Setting on your hands hoping for the perfect trade to just fall won't cut it. Nothing will fall to perfect. You gotta give to get. Not the moon but at least a star.....

Yep and that's the kind of move LUNHOW needs to pull off . The shock and awe of the league. When you start hearing more national attention screaming it's like it's not even fair. All you hear is Yankees this and Red Sox that. Nothing different it's always been that way. It's time for change. Make the Astros great again. Snickering

They're not affiliated with any team. What happened to that tin foil meme? I actually prescribe to the "ESPN bias" conspiracy. Media $ funneling toward those two teams is undeniable.

They want the Yankees and Red Sox to win. The Astros need to shock the league. mlb network and all other national media outlets are pulling for a Yankees-Red Sox ALCS and the winner to get the Dodgers in the WS. They are still in shock because the Astros took out all three last year.

Only dimwits think we don't need catching and bullpen help. The numbers say otherwise. those who rely only on numbers most often fall on their faces. Even Hinch discarded his analytics, sabermetrics, etc. in the playoffs last year and won the WS. Had he kept following the same charts he used during the season, we would have been eliminated before reaching the WS.' If the "numbers" say our bullpen is fine and that we can get by with a catching combo of Stassi/Federowicz, those numbers are most likely tainted.

I dont know about numbers but I can say this.
With close to 42 million comming off the books you cant tell me theres not a way to figure out how to lock in players long term. I think it just has to be structure correctly. Let's say sign Springer long term. 2019 20m 2020 20m 2021 15m 2022 15m Then you get back to reasonable money 2023 10m 2024 10m That way you can sign let's say just random. Correra 2019 10m 2020 10m then increase up to even out since Correra is younger.
I'm not saying to sign those players to that I'm saying they can fit those players in on responsible conteacts

We're the 2nd best team in baseball even with one of our best players on the DL. I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to get more, but we need to realize how good we are right now. We're not desperate for help.

If Stassi catches 75%+ of the games in the postseason, we're in fine shape. As for the bullpen, don't forget we'll likely have Morton and McCullers in the pen as well. Again, I'm not saying an additional arm or bat wouldn't be useful, but we don't NEED it.

A postseason bullpen of:
Rondon Smith Devenski McHugh McCullers Morton Sipp Perez Peacock Harris (Mop-up)
...would be better than last year's championship pen by a mile.
Remember, the goal is postseason success. Our current team will get us there and then our pen will be even better. Don't trade for someone out of assumed desperation.

Morton seems more likely to be the third guy.

As for Stassi, people have said all year he was going to decline, but he has maintained productive numbers. Realmuto would be great but he will cost the farm. Ramos would be a more reasonable upgrade if his hamstring is healing well.

Morton is a power arm better suited for the pen than somebody like Keuchel.
