he belongs in the NL. Today has been pretty quiet on the trade front......and sometimes that is the calm before the storm.

Archer is a pretty good show. I'm not sold on Archer anymore. Not saying he doesn't have good stuff but I think he is far from dominant.
I know some here would want him for the team control since Keuchel is most likely gone after this season. Just not worth the prospects to get him. I'd rather start Whitley in that case.

I've come to the realization that if any pitcher in the league wants to come to Houston then all they have to do is work on their spin rate

Getting an SP here makes no sense unless someone is moving to the bullpen. Either way, I think a hitter is more important.

I've come to the realization that if any pitcher in the league wants to come to Houston then all they have to do is work on their spin rate I really want Conley to come to the Astros....however, he is under team control through the 2021 season...so the asking price could be high.....he would remain in the bullpen for this season...but Strom could work on him, to see if he could be a starter again, if it is better for the Astros rotation... Now the Cardinals are rumored to be interested in Archer...which means they would deplete their farm to get him...they might be a long shot to get him, but if they were to, then I think that would make them want to move Jose Martinez, a player better suited for the AL, to replenish some of what was lost in a deal for Archer.

Lookiing over past trades with starting pitchers.
-Quintana has not performed as well as the cubs had hoped yet they gave up 4 prospects including Eloy Jiminez. This guy in AAA this year is hitting .372 with 6 HRs and only 10 Ks in 23 games. Dylan Cease in 5 AA starts has only a 2.87 ERA with 42 ks in 28.2 innings. WIN for the White Sox
-Sale has performed exactly how the Red Sox invisioned, however the White Sox haul for him has been less than par. Moncada was the key to the trade and he has disappointed so far: .230 avg and 139 ks in 95 games played this year. White Sox also got 3 other players that haven't been very impressive. WIN for the Red Sox
-Gray went to the Yankees and has a 5.08 ERA this year. The players back to the A's haven't shown real promise either though so it's a wash (including the headliner Dustin Fowler). TIE
-Verlander has been just what the Astros needed and the players Detroit got in return were decent but not farm system breaking. Daz Cameron has done well this year in AA .304 in 36 games with 5 HRs and 25 RBIs but Franklin Perez has fell on his face and Jake Rogers has not been much better. WIN for the ASTROS
These are the mid season trades. It appears that gambling on a pitcher to regain success after struggling turns into a loss quickly if you give up a top prospect. This is why Archer is not worth the haul they are asking for. But getting a highly regarded pitcher doing well like Sale and Verlander still pays off.

Speaking of vets. Beltre could be an interesting pickup if the price was right. We need a guy in the clubhouse aching to win a World Series who can be an influence in the dugout as well as still hit and field. 3B/DH. A better option than Gattis immediately

Yankees will get him...If not, then the Padres. The bloom seems to be off the rose a little with Archer. TB may of held on to him a season too long.

Gotta wonder if repeating is as important to Luhnow as holding on to prospects.

The whole point of holding on to prospects is to fortify championship teams. You can’t hold on to every big prospect while that window starts to close when other contenders get stronger.

we need to trade for Derek Dietrick or whatever his name is. We drafted him a long time ago and he refused to sign and we did not draft him again the next year. Time to turn orange dude. 2nd, 3rd, and lf sounds perfect for what ails us.

I’d love an OBP guy like Choo here, but he’s probably too pricey and old for Crane’s taste. Plus, he’s not a rental.

Gotta wonder if repeating is as important to Luhnow as holding on to prospects. He sat on his ass and kept prospects last year and got away with it so he may think lightning will strike twice. With Altuve and Correa both on the DL, he needs to get somebody. You build a good farm system to give you the pieces you need to trade for players to help you win a championship as well as to bring up to the main club. We have several BLOCKED prospects that can be traded for players we need NOW. Contininng to hoard prospects rather than use some to fill holes on the Astros can come back to bite him. Why does ne insist on hanging on to White, Reed, and those guys./

Healthy we have the best team hands down. If Correa gets hurt again, or Jose is hurt more than we know....The season could end soon.
