68-41 4 games up in the division 7 games behind Boston for the overall lead 1st in run differential again at +180 Team OPS+: 112 Team ERA+: 127
OPS+ Leaders (OBP + SLG adjusted for field, ex. Coors effect) - 100 is considered league average so anything above is considered slightly to very above average (Bagwell had a career 149 for comparison):
White 156 Bregman 155 Altuve 141 Correa 132 Kemp 128 Gattis 120 Springer 113 Stassi 111 Reddick 106 Gurriel 102 Marwin 86 Fisher 75 McCann 71 Marisnick 65 Davis 53 Federowicz 46 Tucker 32
If you look at those numbers in a vacuum they seem pretty good. Unfortunately, White, Kemp, and Stassi are all part-time players with limited ABs. We need way more from Gurriel and Marwin if they're going to be everyday starters. Especially with what we're paying Gurriel. Reddick's isn't amazing but he makes up for it with respectable defense.
Let's hope we see good Keuchel this afternoon. This start today will bring him equal with last year's total of 23. Unfortunately, Seattle has decent numbers against him, especially Cruz. On the plus side, Gattis and Reddick have thoroughly destroyed LeBlanc (4 HR in 15 ABs with 7 RBI), and, as a lefty, we should get to see Stassi and White in the lineup again.

I saw a tweet yesterday from a baseball insider (can't remember who) that said, "I've never seen a guy go from World Series MVP and fall off a cliff as bad as Springer has this year." Seems a little over the top. Springer slumped going into the ASB, but other than that his numbers are fine.

His numbers are certainly down some this year, but he's on pace for:
27 HR 82 RBI 107 Runs 4+ WAR .750+ OPS
Obviously we would like to see more, but outside of a bad June, he's having about a normal season for him. He's an All-Star caliber player, not a Hall of Fame-caliber player.

It will be interesting to see who is off the active roster to make space for Jake.

Am I the only one who misses McCann? I miss healthy McCann. I hope he comes back strong so we can ditch Maldonado. maldonado won't be ditched. If any of the catchers is "ditched, it will be Stassi. Maldonado can shut down a running game......neither McCann nor Stassi does that. Stassi won't be on the playoff roster unless we keep three catcher.

No. Maldonado will have to get a hit if he wants to make the postseason roster if McCann is back and producing. Stassi has fine defense and is just a little above the league caught stealing rate. He can also hit respectably, especially against lefties. Just because you can't understand his value doesn't mean the FO can't. There is a reason Maldonado has never been a starting catcher outside of last year.

They didn't trade for Maldonado to keep him off a playoff roster. The front office understood the value of an EXPERIENCED, VETERAN catcher who handles pitchers well and shuts down running games. Stassi has never stuck on a major league roster until this year. Write in down........Maldonado will be on the playoff roster.

Be sure an let us know when Whit starts producing some runs. Yeah...he only got two more hits yesterday in four ABs and actually doesn't swing at the first pitch every time. Your boy Gurriel went 1-5 and saw a total of 7 pitches, I believe? And his offensive percentages are all about to drop below league average. But hey, let's pick on the young guys that are actually getting on base and being productive. Whatever works for ya!

Although White is probably wise to not remind him of it, he actually did homer off of Verlander in 2016

I think that they got Maldonado because they know McCann isnt coming back. Or to provide that "veteran presence" until he does. He's not a replacement for Stassi.
