The Stros answered the bell, now payback time in Seattle. The win over Oakland could be a momentum shifter for both teams. For the Astros in that, on a day when 4 runs was not enough for their ace JV, the offense came alive to bail out their pitching like they did many times in 2017. For the A’s in that, on a day when they took it to Verlander, their ace and bullpen could not stop a struggling Astros offense and secure the win at home that would have allowed them to take over sole possession of first place in the AL West. Now the question for Houston is, “Will the Astros build on this or will they return to mail-it-in mode in Seattle?” The question for Oakland is, “Will they let this loss interrupt the momentum they have built up over the last two months?”

Maybe the team is worn out from playing till November 1st last year. These are young men between the ages of 20 and mid-30’s who had been playing a kids game for 8 1/2 months...not fighting insurgents in the middle east. They had 3 1/2 months off R&R...from early November til mid-February...before they had to report for ST. I don’t buy the post-WS fatigue excuse for any team. Lol.

You missed the perfect opportunity to call Verlander a dumbass ***** As long as you are here, you will be the leading dumbass and fraud. abregmanfan keeps telling me what a good guy you are and you keep proving me right to disagree. You were an arrogant asshole on the other board and you haven't changed a bit. I tried leaving that on the old board and you keep right on with your BS. As for Verlander, giving up two home runs to Davis on the same pitch in the same location was a product of his competitive nature in trying to show Davis he could get him with that pitch, He threw him basically the same pitch his third time up and Davis fouled it back before finally getting a single to left.

Watched the replay of the game, man JV threw the same pitch in the same location to Davis. Hard to believe it would be the same brain cramp, if anyone can adjust it is him. You make a good point on momentum shifts for both teams, the A's now facing the Rangers, this will be interesting to watch. Getting Jose back will be like making a trade for a hitter.

I think JV was just determined that he would show Davis that he could get that pitch past him. Davis is a dead fastball hitter who usually can’t touch a breaking pitch. I could not believe that...after the first two home runs...JV came right back with the fastball on the first two pitches in Davis’ third at-bat.

That is true being the competitor JV is try to blow it by Davis. I guess you can put Davis into the Yankee pitching mode, breaking ball hitting deficient. Speaking of the Yankees now they have DiDi down, the injury bug is slowly hitting the Bronx Bombers.

Maybe the team is worn out from playing till November 1st last year. I think every team deals with that playing deep into the postseason. That's probably one of the reasons we saw Marisnick getting so many starts in April and May. Reddick is an example of someone who cratered in October possibly due to fatigue, and Hinch wanted to ward against that this time around

True, but they're not playing a kids game against kids. They're playing against men of comparable age, size and stamina

Boo Hoo I feel so sorry for them. Try getting shot at 350 out of 365 days a year and not getting optimum Sleep and 2/3 Squares a day and no pampering.
I understand that it can be grueling but how about they do not hang out after most games etc. Yes, they are young thus the quicker recovery time.
Little Less Drinking and Parting and little more time Resting and exercising to increase their stamina.

Tough to say. Baseball's the only professional sport that crams that many contests into a 7-month period. I think there's something to be said for the fact that no one's repeated in 18 years. The Bochy-Giants were good enough to win 3 but none in consecutive seasons Also remember our boys weren't recovering in those 3 1/2 months the same way the A's were for 4 1/2 months. We were doing media spectacles celebrating the world title

It's not a coincidence everyone's getting hurt all of a sudden

Getting hurt just tells me that they are doing the right thing in taking care of themselves. How much are they parting? I think once they got here they no longer put the same effort they did when they wanted to get here. I do find it amazing how certain players are always hurt. There has to be something to it.

I said that at the same time that idiot Correa said he wanted to win the MVP. I remember hearing it doesn't hurt to hear they want to from some of the Posters here. Don't talk and say anything. Go out and Do it then SAY IT. It will always come back to bite you in the azzz. Nothing worse than saying something you azzz didn't or can't cover.

I still think our opponents deserve a lot of credit for figuring out how to pitch to and shift defensively against us

That could explain this hangover of sorts. Great and very Good Players figure out how to overcome what the opposition throws at them. This team has maybe a couple of those type and they decided to take the year off. If they were one of two types I mention. I have always felt they fell just below that. Maybe it's Hinch not knowing how to deal with a team that Won it all. How to keep them on track and playing at the same level when they looking to win.
