Springer not setting the table, but he’s damn sure showing value in the OF.

Springer not setting the table, but he’s damn sure showing value in the OF. I don't think Kemp would have made that catch

Springer may be the modern day version of Bobby Bonds. Springer struck out 178 times in 2016. He’s at 98 this season.

Springer not setting the table, but he’s damn sure showing value in the OF. Just because his Defense is Superior doesn't mean he should bat leadoff. Maybe moving him down will make him wake the hell up at the plate.

Remember when the Reds tried out Dunn at leadoff? Let's just have Gattis lead off. Screw them all up A lot of research on lineup construction has suggested that teams could form their lineups by throwing darts and their W/L records at the end of the season wouldn't be much different. Based on the logic of "the higher you are in the lineup, the more PAs you get", we might say that it's best to simply bat the hitters in descending order of OPS+ based on the handedness of the other team's starting pitcher. For tonight's game, that would give a batting order of: White 1B Altuve 2B Bregman 3B Kemp CF Marwin LF Correa SS Stassi C Gattis DH Springer RF If Hinch actually tried that batting order, it might produce 10 runs... even though Kemp is hardly the prototypical cleanup hitter and putting Springer last is exactly opposite of what Hinch actually does.

Looks like the Offense is going to have to come from behind again. Oakland has some HR hitters.

I've read the same. Ultimately where it makes a difference is if your leadoff man is hitting at the Mendoza line. Then it starts to show up in the standings. That's what the Cubs struggled with last season

remember before the break when we were talking about trading for Lowrie because the A's were just below 500.

I guess Morton does not like throwing strikes to Lowrie.

So, Hinch FINALLY takes a pitcher out before he completely implodes... only to put in Will Harris

That's a sensible pitch limit for Charlie at this point in the season.

In the end, pitching depth brings success. Too long a season without it. The Yankees are a Severino injury away from nada also. I was thinking a while back. I wonder if Bagwell and Biggio playing almost every game hurt them in playoff games. Maybe AJ has the right formula and Correa, Altuve and Springer have all gotten time off from mostly injuries. Might help them be fresher if they make the playoffs. Also McCann. No doubt that sports science improvement is making a big difference with that. You see it in the NBA more and more too.

Hinch- "Gotta take you out"
Morton- "Fine, but Harris.... really?"
Hinch- "Today's done, we'll get 'em tomorrow"
Altuve walks up- "But we are still within 2 runs"
Hinch- "If Will gets 'em out then I'm a genius. If not then I'm the nice guy who likes to give chances. Either way the clipboard wins"
everyone- "Good game"
