White is, I think, the only Astro to homer off Diaz this year but will we see him this game?

Astros team BABIP .158 today. Mariners .320. Had it not been for Jake in CF, would have been higher for the M's.
That was a lot of the difference right there.

You know it is hard to watch a boring game where the hitters stay at home only to have the manger give the game away by letting someone pitch after showing he did not have it tonight. Rondon is a 6th or 7th inning guy, Pressley is our fireman, Osuna our closer, case closed. Try not to screw up the game tomorrow there Hinch.

Hinch could at least tell us in advance when he's going to do this so we can make some money on those online sports betting sites.

I would have left Pressly in in the 8th. This is what happens when you manage like a robot.

I thought I had read earlier in the week that Cole would start tomorrow. I guess the idea is to give Cole an extra day of rest?
When you are trying to clinch the division, it seems to me you go with your strongest and most well-tested pitchers. Rookies like James would make sense in the Orioles series assuming the Astros have the division title sewn up by then.

Rondon was terrible and gave up the slam, but, when your ofense gets one run and three hits, you deserve to lose. HInch needs to be concentrating on winning the division instead of getting at bats for certain players. Benching White was stupid......keeping Correa hitting higher than 8th or 9th is worse. He is absolutely pathetic and is doing nothing to show improvement. What he did last year isn't getting the job done now.
I can't wait to hear AJ in the post-game....he will blow it off like no big deal. He can't tell the truth and say his damn clipboard gave this one away

If Reddick's injury keeps him out of the postseason... is that perhaps a blessing in disguise?

Skipping Cole makes no sense. You win the division and then rest pitchers.

For the Orioles series, if the Astros have the title in the bag, Hinch is more than welcome to trot James, Framber, Cionel, and Deetz out there along with JD Davis, Myles Straw, and whoever else. The Hooks-Grizzlies are probably more than up to the task of defeating the Orioles.

In terms of winning the ALDS, I'd rather see Kemp out there than Reddick. Maybe sore knees, lingering spiderbite, etc. will keep Josh watching from the locker room.

Reddick has an achilles that is bothering him and Hinch says he's "day to day" which often means he may be out a month. In any case, Jake belongs in CF. We need to put Kemp, Jake, and George n the OF. Bench Marwin since he's not going to bench Carlos no matter what he does which makes no sense.

With Correa's problems this year, it made me second-guess the decision not to get Machado.
Machado is hitting 246 with a .740 OPS this month. Better than Carlos but nothing really special either. Meanwhile Machado's new team is heating up just in time for the playoffs.

The top 6 guys in that table represent the hot bats the team has now so they should be starting every game of the ALDS.
With today's double, Marwin (for all his self-admiration antics) is close to hitting at league average for the month and given the alternatives, he should probably be in everyday postseason lineup too.
I like the idea of starting Marisnick for his defensive value, but would want him hitting 9th to minimize his PAs. Of course catcher would be a McCann/Maldonado tandem unless there is an injury... and as banged up as Maldonado has been, I really won't be surprised to see Stassi in the playoffs.
Hinch won't do it, but I'd make Correa a late-inning defensive replacement for Marwin at SS and also a pinch hitter / pinch runner.

Gattis is a waste of a roster spot... his spot should go to Stassi so the team can carry 3 catchers into the playoffs. Reddick would be the primary OF replacement.
That would give a roster of 13 position players and 12 pitches. If Hinch goes with a 14/11 split like he did in last year's ALDS, he could carry Fisher or Straw to be used strictly as a pinch runner.

Anytime it's critical with runners on base, I'd pinch hit for Correa in a heart beat. i have never seen a guy with his talent be as pathetic over the long haul as he has been. He has been AWOL most of the season.

I agree with leaving Gattis off the playoff roster. Why use a roster spot on a guy who doesn't play a defensive position who isn't hitting a lick.. Carry McCann, Maldonado, and Stassi if he goes with three catchers. I'd rather give a spot to a guy with speed than waste a spot on Gattis.

If it were me I'd leave Correa off the playoff roster unless he turns it around. Hell JD Davis would be a better roster spot because he has more experience at multiple positions.

Correa use to hit rockets to CF and LF. Some out of the park. Not anymore. I can’t remember the last one he hit, even in the park.
As far as last nights debacle, I think it was Loel Passé that use to say...”How about them Astros”

Regardless of how we felt about Hinch’s hesitancy to act yesterday, the bottom line is this team likely won’t go far without Correa, and the question remains how much injuries have affected the offense of Altuve and Springer.

If Correa is really free of injury and doing this bad, AJ is an idiot to keep him in the linueup. If he is injured, he has no business playing and should be getting treatment to hopefully be ready for the post season. In any case, having him hitting in the middle of the lineup is just plain stupid.. Benching White last night was stupid...not playing Jake in CF is stupid.......resting starting pitchers before clinching the division makes no sense. Hinch is gambling with blowing this thing and will be solely responsible if they fail to finish first.
