LOL who’s gonna be in the pen then? From what I have read it looks like the team is trying to get Lance prepared to pitch out of the bullpen when/if he returns this in time for the postseason. If McCullers is ready, here is your postseason pitching staff without McHugh, Peacock and Rondon: Verlander Cole Morton Keuchel McCullers James Valdez Smith Pressly Osuna Sipp I will buy that for a dollar

That was one of the few games all year I just decided to turn off in the 7th inning because there was just no hope of seeing anything positive from the team. maybe Hinch consulted some feng shui guru who said the team has to clinch on such and such a day for it to be 'auspicious'. So he engineered a loss to make sure the Stros don't clinch too early. Leaving Devo off the playoff roster should be a pretty obvious decision. However I think Hinch will feel a lot of pressure to keep Harris on there. The Astros should be able to win at least 8 of the final 10 games if they apply themselves just a little bit. ah feng shui master says team lacking in chi. play like they are on the edge of 4 ing

Here is the most recent info I could find on postseason roster eligibility. It comes from an article dated September 2, 2018:
“As for postseason eligibility, there are two things to know about September call-ups: The player had to be in the organization by 11:59 p.m. ET on August 31 to be eligible for the postseason roster. No exceptions. They didn't have to be on the MLB roster or even the 40-man roster, but they had to be in the organization. That's why there are always last-minute trades on August 31.
Players not on the 40-man roster prior to September 1 can be added to the postseason roster through a substitution rule. He can be added to the 40-man in September and carried on the postseason roster as an injury replacement for a player who has spent at least 60 days on the 60-day DL.”
Valdez was on the 40-man roster on August 31, so he is good to go. Josh James was added on September 1. The only player we have on the ML roster who is on the 60-Day DL is Jandel Gustave. The last time he was on the active ML roster during the season was on April 19, 2017. He was placed on the 10-Day DL on April 20, 2017. He was transferred to the 60-Day DL on June 14, 2017 and remsined on the 60-Day DL for the remainder of the 2017 season. Prior to opening day 2018, he was placed on the 10-Day DL on 3/28/2018 and remained on the 10-Day DL until 9/15/2018 when he was transferred back onto the 60-Day DL. So...he has spent more than 60 days on the 60-Day DL since he was last active during the 2017 season. Does this mean the Astros can designate an injury replacement for him and place that injury replacement on the postseason roster even though the player who is the injury replacement was not on the Astros 40-man roster on August 31, 2018? I keep reading articles about the possibility of Josh James being on the postseason roster this year and that is the only way I can see James being eligible for the postseason roster, since he was not added to the 40-man roster until September 1st.

I doubt Valdez is on it. I wouldn't be shocked if McCullers isn't either. You are probably right. McHugh and Rondon will both probably be on the postseason roster. McHugh could be counted on to fill a spot in the rotation next season. Rondon will probably be counted on as the setup man next season...maybe even the closer if Osuna ends up in the big house. Wouldn’t want to hurt either of those guy’s feelers by passing over them for the postseason roster in favor of a rookie who was in the minor leagues until the last month of the sesson.

If we had him and James both, they could dominate over a few innings. I don't expect Valdez, but, if it were me....and I would be in the minorty.....I might take him and leave Keuchel off. Keuchel can't relieve and scares me to death as a starter.

What they need is some good old fashioned ‘15 Postseason Rasmus hitting. Take pitches you don’t like. Crush strikes. All too often they look lost on offense.

They talked as if all three were eligible. *shrug*

I had a bad feeling about last night's game before it started. The Mariners hit well in MMP and several of them put up good numbers against Keuchel. We were basically out of the game before we ever came to bat. You could sense the team felt that way, too. There was no bright spot that I saw in that game. If I had my way, Keuchel would not set foot on the mound in a playoff game.

Fans that endured last nights debacle should get a refund, plus paid an additional amount for wasting their time watching a little to no effort team lose 9-0.
Score 1 run in game 1. Score 7 in game 2. Then get shutout by a few relievers last night. Some with ERA’s under 10.
This team doesn’t have the offense like 2017. Averaging 2.67 runs per game vs. Seattle in the series is bad.

He’s got a strong head on his shoulders though. That liner off his head went straight to Springer. It didn’t roll to him. It was on a line.

Would be nice is some industrious poster would create a side by side chart of a comparison of this team versus last year. From my 1500 foot, 5 cent observation is we obviously have a better pen. On the negative side our core lineup is not as intimidating. And I will say it again... The WS winner is usually one of about 5 teams that just happens to get hot at the right time. (October 1st)

"Honestly, no. I've had some good runs here. Hopefully, there's a few left for us. That means we're doing well in the playoffs. ... It's not something I want to think about right now." -- Keuchel, when asked if he thought about Wednesday being his final Astros game at Minute Maid Park
