I think Stassi has done a good job. If Stubbs is ready next season, they would make a good platoon. Both are very athletic as catchers go, are said to work well with the pitchers and do a good job at throwing out base runners attempting to steal. My only concern is whether Stubbs will hit in the big league. Brian falls inline with the thinking of a player you would think would make a great coach. He seems to love and respect the game....and he has a leg up being a catcher... I don't know if he would want to live in Houston long-term, but when Hinch is no longer managing the Astros, I wouldn't mind McCann being a candidate for the manager role.

I agree that he respects the game and plays it the right way. I wouldn’t mind at all having him as a coach in our organization. That said, I don’t think the Astros will pick up his $15 million option for next season. I agree...

I see Tyler White has two doubles and a strikeout so far today, hitting .357 on the year. Got to bring that man to MMP for some Torchy's Tacos!

IN spite of giving up a HR, Josh James looked good in his start today. 4 hits and 3 walks spread over 5 innings. Good way to start!

I have heard that the adjustment to AA is the most difficult one a player makes as he moves up from level to level in the minor leagues. So far Josh Rojas seems to be handling the transition well. Take a look at his numbers at A Advanced Buies Creek this year compared to his numbers since his promotion to AA Corpus Christi:
Adv A—24 Games, 90 AB, 28 H, 11 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 15 BB, 13 K, 12 SB, 0 CS, BA .311, OBP .410, Slg .511, OPS .921 AA ——- 8 Games, 29 AB, 9 H, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 4 BB 5 K, 1 SB, 0 CS, BA .310, OBP .382, Slg .586, OPS .969
He has played every infield position and LF, and has DHed this year. In his 8 games since being promoted to AA he has played 2 games at 2B, 2 games at SS, 1 game at 3B, and 1 games in LF. It definitely looks like the organization is preparing him for the super utility role when he makes it to the big league.

At this point, I just feel like the team is worried about Gattis and Marisnick refusing a smaller role, requesting a release, and thriving elsewhere. After the comment Hinch made a couple days ago, indicating that Gattis needs to produce more if he is to continue to get ABs at DH, I think Evan is on the bubble. If he doesn’t turn it around drastically and soon, I think something will be done with him by mid-June. If he is not hitting, he has zero value to the team because he can’t play any position on the field adequately, other than maybe catcher and Stassi is out of options and doing quite well there. The team needs Gattis to do just one thing.., that one thing is hit.., and he isn’t hitting. Jake, on the other hand, has value as a pinch runner and late inning defensive replacement at all three outfield positions. When he is not hitting, he can still make a contribution to the team. He is close friends with Springer and seems to be well liked by the rest of the guys. I think this gets him more leeway. Don’t want to upset team chemistry. I don’t recall Hinch issuing Marisnick any subtle ultimatums in the way he did Gattis. So I think Jake will be around for a while.

I just checked the Astros roster as astros.com. Gattis is still there.
I guess we have to wait a while longer to see a real DH. Maybe Hinch thinks the Rangers are so bad, it's possible to win with one hand tied behind our backs.

He has blocked prospects, and non-contending teams will have expiring contracts, it's got to happen. I bet Donaldson will be dealt this summer. Would make a nice DH. I saw some replays of Donaldson last week, his shoulder must be hurting just looking at his throws. I have seen reports the Jays are serious about promoting Val's son from AA and bringing him up.

I wouldn’t mind José Abreu here, but I don’t trust the White Sox in trades. Plus, Abreu is likely to end up being a slug like Carlos Lee. Good thing we have the DH now.
