VD trade proposal: Reed, Kemp and Hoyt for Abreu.. I wouldn’t mind José Abreu here, but I don’t trust the White Sox in trades. Plus, Abreu is likely to end up being a slug like Carlos Lee. Good thing we have the DH now. Abreu would be totally the DH here...

It would also be hard to look at your minor league system as a Ranger fan and not be discouraged. Now when you combine the two items it would really suck to be a Rangers fan right now. And then when you think that you are still paying Alex Rodriguez 5 million next year and 9 million to Prince Fielder you really have to worry about your ability to sign free agents to help. So then it just gets depressing to be a Rangers fan. And you know in a twisted way, it makes me feel kind of good.

You know almost 10 years ago, I remember so many Ranger fans ragging on how bad our club was, and how bad our future looked. Paybacks are a mofo

Good to see Tyler White back in action after the 2 HBP. Looks like he got on base twice tonight (a hit and a walk). Also, no K's for White. I'm starting to think that if he comes up to the Astros, he will keep his K% under 20%.
Right now, Gurriel, Gonzalez, Fisher, Marisnick, and Gattis are getting on base at an abysmal rate, well below league average. White and Davis would probably get on base at least 35% of the time. There are lots of ways to get them in the lineup (DL stints for Sipp, Marisnick, and/or Yuli...).

Kemp is such an enigma. Kills AAA pitching, but a near Mendozan in the show (.217 in 175 ab here 2016-2017).
So is he our latest Bogusvic, or does he have some value to a patient team willing to invest the mentoring time? At age 26, he should be at a career fork in the road one way or the other.

Kemp has never been given consistent playing time at the major league level. I would like to see what he would do if put in the starting lineup at the ML level and left there for at least a month or so. That is not going to happen in Houston. They should just trade the kid.

Last season, you could definitely say Kemp was blocked. This season, so many players are underperforming. All in all, he should be given his last shot here. He surely can’t hit as poorly as Marisnick or have defense as lackadaisical as Fisher. I’d like to see him bat 9th and try to spark new life in this “sit back and watch GIDP” offense. I also hope he knows how to bunt.

We have to bring up White and Davis, like now.
The front office seems to like Gattis.
So here are two short-term scenarios
Send Marisnick or Fisher down and get Marwin to accept a 10-Day assignment so he can get practice playing CF/RF.
Send Marisnick or Fisher down and send Giles down to work on his slider. Giles only has 12 IP. Most closers have 16+ IP.

Send Marisnick or Fisher down and send Giles down to work on his slider. Giles only has 12 IP. Most closers have 16+ IP. One of the relievers can certainly be put on the DL as there is just not enough work to go around. Sipp, Giles, Harris, or Smith - could be any of them, though Sipp is used the least so his absence would have the least impact. That allows one of White/Davis to come up. Then Hinch just needs to put a position player on the DL to bring up the other guy. Could be Fisher, Marisnick, Gattis, or Marwin -- there are justifications for DL'ing each of them, though I'd probably like it to be Marisnick as he's conrtributed much less offensively this year than any of the others.

A little bit of fear goes a long way. Players need to be concerned that someone else can take their place. If you leave guys alone and tell them that every little thing is going to be alright then they grow complacent. Time to shake it up.

If you leave guys alone and tell them that every little thing is going to be alright then they grow complacent. Time to shake it up. Yep! That is the reality which ought to dispel the notion of 'Hinch shouldn't fire or demote anybody because it will ruin the clubhouse chemistry.' In reality, the chemistry can get worse when underperformers are not demoted/disciplined as the guys who are pulling their weight start to lose heart. Some tough love is in order in the Astros clubhouse these days.
