A little bit of fear goes a long way. Players need to be concerned that someone else can take their place. If you leave guys alone and tell them that every little thing is going to be alright then they grow complacent. Time to shake it up. Yep! That is the reality which ought to dispel the notion of 'Hinch shouldn't fire or demote anybody because it will ruin the clubhouse chemistry.' In reality, the chemistry can get worse when underperformers are not demoted/disciplined as the guys who are pulling their weight start to lose heart. Some tough love is in order in the Astros clubhouse these days. You are both right. Case in point. On May 7 Hinch was quoted as saying that if Gattis wanted to keep getting at-bats as the DH he was going to have to start producing. At that point Gattis had gone hitless in his last 6 games and his batting average had dropped to .186. Beginning with the game on the night of May 7, Gattis has gone on a 6 game hitting streak in which he is 7-20 with a double and two home runs. It is a good thing to hold players accountable.

I agree with White up and Straw to AAA. I thought for a minute that they might just let Straw skip AAA and bring him all the way up but that might backfire.

“Perez looking pretty interesting. If he can keep this up maybe we have our lefty reliever for the stretch run plus playoffs.”
I just checked and Perez has allowed just 1 earned run over his last 6 appearances in 24.1 innings pitched. He has pitched 28.1 innings this season and has not allowed a home run. He should be at AAA soon. If he keeps up pitching like this, I think he will be in Houston by the end of August.

so JD's gonna come up after an 0fer?
How many chances did they have to bring him up during his hot streak?

Since it was not White we should go ahead and kick Sipp to the curb and bring him up as well.

Sipp has looked better recently. If we could get him back to somewhere between how he was in 2014 and 2015, we'd be in great shape.

To me the issue is as much having 13 pitchers as it is with rostering Sipp.

I’d definitely switch out one of them with Davis/White. The pitching is okay for the most part. The offense has been a glaring weakness, namely in depth.

I agree. With the team needing more offense right now, it is hard to justify wasting a roster spot on a seldom used arm. Yeah, the bench is so weak without Marwin. They’ve at least got Kemp now, but who else is there, Fisher and Stassi? I’m not too comfortable with that despite Stassi’s recent success.

To me, Stassi should be starting against any lefty, and McCann against any righty. (McCann is actually hitting better against lefties this year, but career-wise he's much better against righties.) Quick note: Stassi career OPS+ is up to 120 (limited playing time, but still impressive for a catcher with solid defensive skills).
