Looks like Fresno is missing their little spark plug (Kemp) at the top of the batting order. When he was called up he had had hits in 33 of 38 games played and a .407 OBP for Fresno. Jake was the leadoff hitter in the brief time he was down. In the 4 games since Jake was called back up 3 different Fresno players...Drew Ferguson, Garrett Stubbs and Alejandro Garcia...have batted leadoff for the Grizzlies. Only Stubbs (1-3 with a HR) has a hit. Ferguson and Garcia are 0-12. Fresno lost 3 of those 4 games. Fresno is 29-21 on the season, but just 5-5 since Kemp was called up.

When (if) Tucker is called up.., maybe sooner.., I think Straw will be promoted to AAA and placed in the leadoff spot in the order, since I don’t think Kemp will be sent back down.
I say “if” Tucker is called up because if he can’t develop some consistency, he may not get the call next month. The one thing I don’t like about Tucker is that he seems to be...so far, at least...a very streaky hitter. He is batting just .195 over his last 10 games. He is on a 0-13 streak right now over the last 3+ games. Before going into the current 0-13 he had 6 hits in his previous 15 at-bats in a 4 game hitting streak. Prior to those 6 hits, he had gone 0 for his last 10 at-bats over 2+ games. He has 14 0fer games out of 45 games played so far this season. I see no reason to get in any hurry to call him up to the big club until he shows more consistency than what he has shown so far.

I’m fairly disappointed with Tucker so far in AAA. I was expecting a Bregman-like surge for Fresno, but so far it’s been sunk or swim games. He needs to get over .300 if he wants his shot.

That whole “Ted” thing in ST may have given him the big head. Right now there is no mistaking him for Ted Williams.....Ted Baxter maybe, but not Ted Williams.

I don’t remember any good results from Guduan at the MLB level. Am I forgetting something? You're not really forgetting anything about Guduan in the regular season. But there are two reasons I think Guduan deserves another look with the Astros: 1) Has shown improvement in his control at AAA as the season has progressed. Only 2 walks in his last 9.1 IP and also he's only allowed an earned run in two of his 16 AAA appearances this year. We know he throws hard; the question has always been whether he can control the walks. It's looking like the answer is 'Maybe'. 2) Even in spring training, he was looking improved over where he was last year.

Guduan won’t get a shot because he’s not making $6 million this season.

Also, Hoyt and Guduan are showing they could step into the bullpen at some point this year as injury replacements as needed.

The writer very accurately describes the way guys of my generation...., we who grew from boyhood to manhood listening to Gene Elston and learning to love baseball and the Astros in large part due to the way he presented the game..., felt/feel about Gene Elston. www.houstonpress.com/news/rip-gene-elston-the-original-and-the-best-voice-of-the-houston-astros-7739231

It’s nice to see Kid Tucker finally having a great game. Yes it is. I just wish he would be more consistent. Seems like lately he will have a good game or two and then follow that up with a 0-8 to 0-12 streak. Then another good game or two followed by another hitless streak.

I just took a look at mlb.com’s most recent Top 30 Astros Prospects rankings and it looks like Luhnow did quite well with the two draft picks the COB awarded to Houston from St Louis for the hacking incident. The Astros got picks #56 and #75 from the Cardinals. Here is what they have done so far:
Pick #56 - Corbin Martin RHP: Started the season at Advanced A Buies Creek. His line at Buies Creek: 19 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 7 BB, 26 K, .065 BAA, .58 WHIP, 1.91 GO/AO. Was promoted to AA Corpus Christi on May 1. Had a terrible debut outing at Corpus in which he pitched just .1 inning and allowed 6 ER on 5 H and 1 BB. Since that first outing he has settled down and pitched well. His line at Corpus Christi (keep in mind that this include the bad first outing), 21.1 IP, 17 H, 8 ER, 6 BB, 20 K, .221 BAA, 1.08 WHIP, 1.41 GO/AO, 3.38 ERA.
Pick #75 - JJ Matijevic OF: Started the season at A Full Season Quad Cities. His line at Quad Cities: 13 Games, 48 AB, 17 H, 6 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 8 BB, 10 K, 3 SB, 0 CS, BA .354, OBP .446, SLG .708, OPS 1.155. He was promoted to A Advanced Buies Creek on May 8. His line at Buies Creek: 17 Games, 68 AB, 22 H, 4 2B, 3 3B, 3 HR, 3 BB, 21 K, 0 SB, 2 CS, BA .324, OBP .342, SLG .603,OPS .945.

AAA - Fresno 2 El Paso 1 Derek Fisher DH: 1-4, BA .375 Kyle Tucker LF: 0-4, BA .276 Tyler White 2B: 1-4, BA .337....batting .257 over his last 10 games AJ Reed 1B: 0-4, BA .268 Drew Ferguson CF: 0-1, 3 BB, BA .316....batting .258 over his last 10 games Garrett Stubbs C: 1-2, BA .363 Jack Mayfield SS: 1-2, 1 2B, BA .242 Josh James RHP: 7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, ERA 3.38....the best of his 4 games since being promoted to AAA. He had given up a home run in each of the first 3 games and had walked 7 while striking out 20 in 14.1 IP in those 3 games. Good to see just 1 walk and no home runs allowed today. He has moved into the Top 30 Astros Prospects at #30 in the most recent mlb.com rankings. Kent Emanuel LHP: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, ERA 3.66 Buddy Boshers LHP: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, ERA 3.57 James Hoyt RHP: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, ERA 2.00

Which minor league players do you find yourself tracking their stats the most?
I guess Tucker and reinstated Whitley will be the headliners, forgone conclusions.....
But for me it is Straw, Ferrell, Martin, Alvarez and Stubbs...
