From games played July 14: AA - Corpus Christi 6 Midland (Athletics) 3 Andy Pineda LF: 3-5, 1 3B, BA .364....this kid is putting up some good numbers at AA. Really good when you consider the fact that he was promoted to AA directly from Short Season A Tri City this year and has not played at Full A or Advanced A ball. Pineda is kind of a mystery. 21 years old but not much on him and then there he is kicking some butt in AA.

From game played July 14:
AAA - Fresno 7 Tacoma (Mariners) 1 Myles Straw RF: 0-5, 3 K, BA .307....slumping badly recently. A rare thing for him. Has gone hitless in 7 of his last 10 games. Batting .167 (6-36) with 12 strikeouts. He has walked 11 times, stolen 6 bases to go along with his 6 hits and scored 5 times in those 10 games though, so he is finding a way to help the team. Derek Fisher CF: 2-4, 1 2B, BA .252 JD Davis LF: 0-3, BA .335 AJ Reed DH: 1-4, 1 HR(20), BA .264 Taylor Jones 1B: 1-4, 1 HR(3), BA .196 Garrett Stubbs C: 0-4, BA .333 Jack Mayfield 2B: 2-4, 1 2B, BA .259 Nick Tanielu 3B: 2-4, 1 2B, BA .261 Antonio Nunez SS: 2-4, BA .200 Trent Thornton RHP: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, ERA 4.03 Buddy Boshers LHP: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, ERA 2.30

Yeah, I have noticed Straw's numbers rapid declining....is this one of those regressive progression things? Straw is a line drive hitter who gets a majority of his hits up the middle or opposite field. Not a pull hitter and certainly not a power hitter. There was talk in ST of having him adjust his swing, pull the ball more and uppercut in order to try and produce more power. I wonder if they are jacking with his swing. Straw's hit tool is a 55, his run tool a 70, his fielding tool a 60, his arm tool a 55, and his power tool a 20. So in other words the scouts have him rated as good or better than Tucker in 4 of the 5 tools. So if they can get his 20 rating on the power tool up to even a 45 then he becomes a top 10 prospect in all of baseball. So if they are trying to tweak his swing to get the power that Altuve thinks is locked into his swing then by all means spend the next 6 weeks working on it even if his average drops to 200 before he dials it all in. And then if does not dial it in well there is also a place for a guy with 4 outstanding tools as well. But that would be next year or 2020.

Maybe someone opposing pitching coach found a weakness in his strike zone/pitch selection. Then passed the word.

Talk about dodging some bullets, Bukuaskus gave up 7 hits in 3.1 innings but did not give up any runs. He was saved by two double plays and a caught stealing.

Dyxhoorn was named PCL Pitcher of the Week, maybe he gets a call up in the second half. If he proves to be MLB-ready, that would be really key information to know heading into the offseason.
If Luhnow wants to trade Kemp or White, their trade value has to be good right now. Both hitting with major league OPS over .800 and with solid minor league numbers to show it's no fluke. White had an OPS over .850 in 61 major league ABs in 2017, and now sits at .813 in 32 major league ABs in 2018. That's a recent sample size of nearly 100 major league ABs showing he's ready to hit for somebody.
The Brewers and Tigers both need a 2B+DH combo. Maybe Kemp and/or White could be part of a deal for Castellanos if a trade goes down with the Tigers. If with the Brewers, Jeremy Jeffress could be a good pickup for the bullpen. He's having a great year (ERA around 1.17), with a career ERA around 3.00, and would be under control for all of 2019 too.
The Padres could be another trade partner. I think Kemp would replace Spangenburg, which would be an upgrade for them, and then White would be a pinch hitter they can use when the pitcher's spot comes up in the batting order. Prying any of Cimber, Yates, Stammen, or Hand away from San Diego would be great for the bullpen.

Here is how the Astros’ minor league teams from Short Season A - AAA stand at this point in the season:
AAA Fresno is in first place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern Division, 4.5 games ahead of Tacoma. Fresno will make the PCL playoffs if they win their division.
AA Corpus Christi is in first place in the Texas League South Division, 3 games ahead of Frisco in the race for the second half title. Corpus Christi has already qualified for the Texas League playoffs by virtue of winning the first half title.
A Advanced Buies Creek is in second place 1/2 game behind Winston-Salem in the race for the second half title in the Carolina League Southern Division and a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Winston-Salem won the first half title. Buies Creek will make the playoffs if they win the Southern Division second half title or if Winston-Salem wins the second half title and Buies Creek finishes second.
A Full Season Quad Cities is in 5th place 4 1/2 games behind Beloit in the race for the second half title in the Midwest League Western Division. Quad Cities has already qualified for the Midwest League playoffs by virtue of winning the first half title.
A Short Season Tri City is in first place in the NYPL Stedler Division 2 1/2 games ahead of second place Lowell. Tri City makes the NYPL playoffs if they win their division or if they finish with the best record of the second place teams in the NYPL’s three divisions.
The farm looks to be in good shape.

Patrick Sandoval was brought on in relief tonight. Threw a scoreless inning in the 6th, but he just gave up a run in the 7th. His consecutive innings pitched without allowing an earned run ends at 42. Streak may be broken in a big way. He has loaded the bases with no outs in the 7th now.

2 ejections last night for called strikes?
Ump must have been having problems with his menses.
Also still waiting for that magical Fresno debut of everyone's favorite psycho closer.

Yep. Not often you see two batters ejected in the same game for arguing strike calls. Ump must have been really bad. Maybe from the Angel Hernandez mold.
