They picked up the suspended game where they left off on June 3. All of the batting averages and ERAs were what they would have been had the game been finished on June 3rd. It was all screwy. That’s why I didn’t list the BAs and ERA. So was this one of the games that threw Armenteros' era up so high or were these numbers never calculated into the mix prior to it's conclusion. Yes. The numbers from the suspended game jumped his ERA up from 3.38 to 3.99.

Harris looks lost, Devo is struggling, and Sipp is pitching well but makes anyone who remembers the last two years nervous counting on him.

If Beer is moved up to Buies Creek before the end of this month and finishes the season strong there, I could see him opening next season at AA. I am a bit surprised that Mushinski hasn’t already been promoted to Buies Creek.

From game played July 23:
AAA - Fresno not scheduled
AA - San Antonio (Padres) 2 Corpus Christi 1 Carmen Benedetti LF: 1-4, BA .294....stole a base(8) Stephen Wrenn RF: 0-4, BA .269 Abraham Toro 3B: 0-3, BA .190 Taylor Jones 1B: 0-3, BA .319 Josh Rojas DH: 2-3, 2 2B, BA .263 Alex De Goti SS: 0-3, BA .282 Anibal Sierra SS: 0-1, BA .228 Chas McCormick CF: 2-3, 1 2B, BA .303 Ryne Birk 2B: 0-3, BA .237 Eduardo de Oleo C: 0-3, BA .167 Brandon Bielak RHP: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, ERA 1.37 Kit Scheetz LHP: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, ERA 3.00 Ralph Garza RHP: 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, ERA 3.95
Note: The starting pitcher for San Antonio in this game was Jacob Nix. If memory serves me correctly, we drafted Nix the same year we drafted Aiken and we already had an agreement with Nix that was somehow contingent on us signing Aiken for under slot value. When the deal with Aiken fell through we lost the Nix kid too. Something to do with losing all the slot money that MLB allowed for signing our first pick once we didn’t sign Aiken. If I recall correctly we had a deal worked out to sign Aiken for less than his slot value and were going to use the slot money we saved from signing Aiken below slot value to sign Nix to the contract we offered him. Anyway, it looks like Nix is going to be a good one. His line tonight: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K. His ERA for the season is 1.79. His WHIP is 0.94. He is rated the Padres #13 prospect.

As usual you beat me to the punch there Olpapa. I saw the box score saw Nix's name and came back here to say something along the same lines as you did. Your memory of his situation is correct. He also sued the Astros for specific performance and the day of the hearing we settled for almost his full contract amount. It did not count against us though as it was a legal settlement not a bonus and we had no rights to him after that. Bad deal except that for not signing Aiken we got Bregman. Not a bad trade off.

Isn't Martes supposed to start throwing again soon? This June 21 article from the Houston Chronicle is the most recent thing I can find on Martes: “The Astros have shut down righthanded pitcher Francis Martes and do not expect him to return to competition until late July or early August, general manager Jeff Luhnow said Wednesday.Martes is combating a right elbow injury, Luhnow said, and the organization does not expect him to even begin throwing until "early July." "I don't know what exactly his timetable is, but right now we're not anticipating him to be on a mound in a game until the second half, maybe late second half (of the season)," Luhnow said. "We don't really know what the issue is. There's nothing that requires surgery right now but he does need to feel good and feel 100 percent, but he hasn't."

I’m wondering... if the Astros don’t trade for a back of the bullpen arm before the trade deadline, will they call up Deetz and/or Josh James and give them a look? Deetz has pitched exclusively out of the pen at AAA since he came back from his suspension and 6 rehab games at Quad Cities and Corpus Christi. He has struck out 20 batters in 11 innings in 7 games and not allowed a run at AAA.
Coming into tonight’s game Josh James has struck out 90 batters in 59 innings at AAA. He has 6 strikeouts and 1 walk through 3 innings so far tonight. Between AA and AAA combined Josh James has 134 strikeouts in 83.2 innings pitched this year.
Both guys need to cut down on their walks, but they both seem to have the potential to be a pitcher who can come in and shut an opposing team down.
