Tucker finally had a 300 season. Good that he more or less stayed at AAA this year. Next year he will become another big dog for us.

Every Astros minor league affiliate from Short Season A Tri-City to AAA Fresno made the playoffs. Pretty impressive.

Brandon Bielak RHP: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K I remember Hartman as being a top 10 draft pick but can not remember his having notable success until this year. Obviously he has moved up the ranks and should be in AAA next year. I kind of wonder if he makes the top 100 this year as he was not even on our top 30 min season. You would think a guy who did as well as he did at AA would get some sort of recognition. Plus he is left handed and they seem to develop at a slower pace.

I kind of wonder if he makes the top 100 this year as he was not even on our top 30 min season. You would think a guy who did as well as he did at AA would get some sort of recognition. Plus he is left handed and they seem to develop at a slower pace. Yes. He was drafted in the 9th round 2016. I was just looking at his numbers. What jumps out at me immediately is that he has never walked a lot of batters and has averaged over a K per inning pitched every year. Just my opinion, but I’ve always considered a walk rate of no more than 1 per 3 innings pitched to be an indicator of good control. Here are his numbers as a pro: 2016 - Short Season A Tri-City: 45.2 IP, 7 BB, 48 K 2017 - Full Season A Quad Cities and Advanced A Buies Creek combined: 108.2 IP, 33 BB, 90 K 2018 - AA Corpus Christi: 120.2 IP, 26 BB, 143 K For his 3 year minor league career: 275 IP, 66 BB, 281 K. That is 1 walk per 4.17 IP, 1.02 K per IP and a 4.26/1 strikeout to walk ratio for his minor league career. His 2018 numbers at AA were 1 walk per 4.62 IP, 1.19 K per IP and a 5.50/1 strikeout to walk ratio. So his numbers got better at AA. Another number I pay close attention to is hits per inning pitched. Again, just my opinion, but I consider less than 1 hit per inning pitched to be a good number. For his minor league career Hartman has allowed 245 hits in 275 IP. In 2018 he allowed 104 hits in 120.2 IP. Excellent overall numbers....especially for a young left handed pitcher.

So you are a big believer in whip as am I. His minor league totals figures out to be a whip of 1.11. Houston leads the major leagues with an average whip of 1.09 for the team. Of the top 10 teams when rated by whip 9 are over 500 and the only team under, the Nationals, are severely under performing. I doubt he makes the top 100 this year because he does not have flashy stuff. If he has a 2019 like his 2018 then he absolutely should be rated that high next year.

Texas League semi-finals game #3:
AA - Game suspended due to rain in the bottom of the 11th with San Antonio batting, no outs and a runner on second. Game will be resumed today.
Corpus Christi had an 8-1 lead after 3 1/2 innings. Their manager then left relief pitcher Brandon Bailey in the game until he had given up 1 run in the 4th inning, 2 runs in the fifth inning, and another 4 runs in the sixth inning to allow San Antonio to tie the game. Sounds like he has been studying the clipboard’s guidelines for pitching staff management.
