All things considered the minor league system still looks strong. We keep getting good folks up and they get replaced in the system with more good folks. Good management

AJ Reed needs to hook up with Jenny Craig. The boy is throwing away millions for a few lousy pancakes. Reed might want to go back to pitching. Seems like fat boys have a better success rate as pitchers.

Tucker called back to Houston.
On another front..., Astros have made it official. The AAA affiliate will not be in Fresno next season. Rangers agreement with Round Rock expired at the end of this season. The Ryans own the Round Rock Express. Reid Ryan says the Astros are looking to move their AAA affiliate closer to Houston. Hmm....

That is some cold blooded stuff right there. Maybe it was handled better in person than what was written there. Those two managers have always done a great job as best as I can tell.

That is some cold blooded stuff right there. Maybe it was handled better in person than what was written there. Those two managers have always done a great job as best as I can tell. My thoughts exactly. When I first saw the headline of that article I expected to see that Omar Lopez had been canned as the manager of Corpus Christi. I know that we don’t have access to all of the info that goes into such decisions as these, but on the surface, it seems hard to justify canning Linares and Ensberg..., especially canning those guys and retaining Lopez. In the case of Ensberg, here is a guy who has just managed his team to the Carolina League championship. Think about all of the talented players he had who got promoted to Corpus Christi during the season: Brett Adcock, Brandon Bielak, Corbin Martin, Justin Ferrell, Kit Scheetz, Abraham Hernandez, Chas McCormick, Ronnie Dawson... to name a few. That’s pretty much his starting rotation, best two relief pitchers, starting third baseman, starting center fielder and one of his starting corner outfielders from the team Ensberg started the year with all promoted to AA by mid-season or so....yet he managed to finish tied for the best second-half record in the Carolina League, make the playoffs and win the League Championship. In the case of Linares, in his first year as AAA manager he managed his team to a division championship... won a semi-final playoff series and took his team to the PCL finals. By the time he got his team to the finals his pitching staff had been gutted through promotions of his players to the Astros. Josh James..his best starter was in Houston. Dean Deetz...his best relief pitcher was in Houston. Framber Valdez and Cionel Perez were in Houston. JD Davis..his starting third baseman was in Houston. His starting center fielder, Myles Straw, was promoted to Houston while Fresno was still playing in the PCL finals series. Then you have Omar Lopez who had the most talented team in AA pissing away the Texas League Championship through his inept managing of the pitching staff in the TL semi-finals. Lopez gets to keep his job and Ensberg and Linares get canned. Something just looks wrong with that picture.

from everything we can see both guys did a great job so who knows, maybe they did not carry their clipboard correctly I do remember that Ensberg won the Carolina League Championship game by playing small ball in extra innings. Used a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly in the final inning to get the winning run home. That strategy goes counter to the clipboard. Probably didn’t set too well with the FO.

Winning is not everything, according to the clipboard.

Forrest Whitley’s lat issue must not have been serious. He was activated from the DL and is scheduled to start game 3 of the Texas League semi-finals vs San Antonio tonight. He hasn’t pitched since August 19. Whitley has been the biggest MiLB disappointment this year for us (IMO) Last year, I predicted he would make the big club by mid year. Looks like the combo of (1) dumb mistake getting suspended and (2) poor condtioning during the season resulting in the lat injury is making 2018 a year to forget for one of our best prospects. OP...what do you think now of his career prognosis going forward?

Maybe he can salvage something of the season in the AFL. I will reserve comment on his future until after we see what he looks like in Arizona. Scottsdale’s first game is October 9.

The Washington Nationals have signed a deal to move their AAA affiliate to Fresno next season... and the Astros thought they were a long way away from their AAA affiliate the last few years. The Nats AAA affiliate was in Syracuse this past season.
