Olpapa, how much do you know about Patrick Sandoval?
The Dude's been excellent pre and post Astros. And yet we traded him for a rental player that had a 0.616 OPS?
Did we just give away talent or is this guy's stats just a facade like with Jon Kemmer and Rogelio Armenteros?

Not sure how Sandoval will turn out. He really seemed to be coming into his own this season. Maybe Luhnow didn’t have confidence that he would maintain the progress he seemed to be making this year and decided to sell him. I don’t know.

Forest is pitching tonight. Over/under in my mind is 3 innings with 1 run and 2 hits with 4 strike outs.

It’s a shame that Tucker couldn’t beat out Straw or Gattis for a spot in the postseason.

I really hope that kid can get his shit on a stick and live up to our expectations. He is by far our teams biggest MiLB disappointment this year. First his dumb mistake, then that lateral injury that in 8 times out of 10 is due to poor conditioning.

Crickets I might be wrong, but I was always under the impression that fall/winter league was akin to baseball "summer school". i.e for those who either (1) missed too much time during the season due to injury (2) had a "high profile" adjustment need to make sure career was not derailed. (3) Further evaluation to see if they meet team's LT plans. (4) Punishment to try to get the dead wood out of the organization.

3 innings 0 hits 0 runs allowed and 8 strike outs and one ground out and 38 pitches thrown. No idea if he continues but a fairly good start by any standard

Well he gave up 1 hit and two walks left with one out and no runs scored and the first batter the reliever faced gave up a hit and Whitley is charged with two runs.

Straw is not on the roster for the AFL I just checked the Scottsdale roster. Drew Ferguson was sent to AFL in lieu of Straw. That is a good thing. Ferguson missed a couple months of the regular season with an injury, but looked pretty good when he returned...in August, I think. He, like Whitley, needs the playing time.

Forgot to ask, was there any report on his velocity? Heard had dropped a couple mph in earlier "AA" at CC (injury or conditioning related?)

Forgot to ask, was there any report on his velocity? Heard had dropped a couple mph in earlier "AA" at CC (injury or conditioning related?) From an article at MLB.com: SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Pitching at home for the Scottsdale Scorpions, Whitley struck out the first seven batters he faced against the Mesa Solar Sox, and eight of the first nine over three perfect innings. "I've never even in high school had a stretch like that," Whitley said. "I had a lot of adrenaline. That was the first time in a game situation in about a month. I felt really good, I felt like all my stuff was working, at least in those first three innings. I kind of blew it out those first three innings. Then the fourth inning came and I kind of ran out of gas. I barely went into the fourth or fifth inning this year at all, so it was good to go out there for the fourth inning and learn from that.” Whitley was using all of his pitches extremely effectively and efficiently over the first three innings, with a fastball up to 98 mph to go along with a very effective curve, slider and changeup. He threw just 38 pitches, 28 for strikes. He threw 17 pitches, just eight for strikes in the fourth, as he nibbled too much with his secondary stuff. "I was pleasantly surprised," Whitley said. "It was good to see all of those pitches sharp right out of the gate, so I decided to use all of them. I was throwing them mostly for strikes when I needed to. It was a good thing to propel me hopefully throughout these next six weeks in the Fall League." All of that sounds pretty encouraging.

Slightly concerned with "running out of gas" after 3. Hopefully it was due to inactivity, and not a new stamina issue.

Bukaukas pitched last night and had a pretty good night. Struck out 5 and allowed no earned runs and only 1 hit in 3.1 innings of work. Hernandez had another big night at the plate.

Abraham Toro-Hernandez was the only Astros farmhand to play in the AFL last night. He went 3-3 with a walk, a home run and 2 RBI. In 3 games for Scottsdale he is 6-11 with 2 doubles, 1 home run, 4 walks and has struck out just once.

Yes but then he got promoted to AA a little too quickly if you ask me. He has done well for both of his pro years but he is not a catcher. It will be interesting to see what happens with him as his is an interesting bat.

From Astros.com:
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Houston's No. 2 prospect Forrest Whitley came out solid in his start for the Scottsdale Scorpions on Tuesday afternoon. In four innings pitched, Whitley was able to record six strikeouts, only giving up two hits and one walk.
The Scorpions were able to surge past the Glendale Desert Dogs, 6-1, thanks to Whitley's impressive outing, including three straight strikeouts to escape a jam in the bottom of the second inning. The start came after Whitley was named the AFL Pitcher of the Week earlier in the day.
Whitley wasn't the only Astros' prospect to contribute to the Scorpions' win.
Two other Astros prospects, Ronnie Dawson and Drew Ferguson, got the offense started for the Scorpions.
Dawson hit an RBI double to tie the game and Ferguson hit a sacrifice fly to give the Scorpions the lead in the top of the fourth inning.
