The B man is starting to show why Luhnow drafted him and he is looking real good for 2020. Things look good for our team long term. Great time to be an Astros fan.

Whitley has 14 Ks and has allowed 3 hits and 3 BB through 7.1 IP so far in the AFL. Bukauskus has 9 Ks and has allowed 5 hits and 2 BB through 7.1 IP..

Everyone has high expectations for Whitley and he has looked great in both outings. Now Bakaukas has looked almost as good and has been a bit of a surprise so far. I mean I thought he would do well but he is doing a little better than that. Hernandez as a hitter has looked good so far but he has always been a bit streaky so I want to hold off on too much praise until he gets some more abs.

If Tucker can step it up in the pros, then look out. If the guy can hit .270-ish with speed and gap power, I’ll take it.

Tucker is a guy who really needs to step up next year. We need him to hit 270ish with 20-25 home runs and 75-90 rbis. If we get that from him then it would really create a situation here that is a nice one to have. With Alvarez and Straw ready to go in 2019 as well where do you get enough at bats for Springer, Reddick, Tucker, Kemp, Marisnick, Straw, and Alvarez

Then again, I wish we’d sign Brantley, who would also block prospects. Another season in the minors will tell us about Tucker. After that, it’s put up or shut up time with him. I don’t know what we’ll get from Alvarez or Straw, but let’s hope Myles can supplant Marisnick. Whitley seems more ready than anyone down on the farm at this point.

How about we take baby steps? The team really should wean itself off Marisnick.

It appears as if we have a year of his contract that is not going to work for us. I do believe that he will step it up just a touch next year in response to what I think will be a challenge by Tucker to replace him in right.

Morton please stay. Maldanado too... That was the most epic of all bad blocking in the ALCS. It’s to the point where I thought his re-signing used to be a done deal but now not so much. If he were reliable at all on offense, it’d be different.

We all remember the team overworking McCullers and the impact that it seems to of had on him. So this relates to Whitley and Bukauskus in this way. Whitley had 26 innings in AA this year and he should have an additional 20-22 in the AFL. So he will only log a total of 48 innings for 2018. He had 92 innings in 2017 so based upon the study the max innings he should have for 2019 would be 142. Bukauskus had 59 total between multiple levels this year and will also get around 20 in the AFL. That would be a total of 79 innings for 2018 and his limit next year would be 129. My point here is that it is highly doubtful that either Whitley or Bukauskus most likely will not be a factor in our starting plans for next year, other than an emergency starter of course. 2020 these guys will be front and center for us, not 2019. We have to plan on not having McCullers for next year so if we fail to sign either Keuchel or Morton we will be in trouble as there really are not many acceptable starters on the market this year. I expect that we will trade for a proven starter with more than one year left on his contract much like we did last year with Cole. That trade plus finding a catcher and another 800+ ops bat will dominate the off season.

I trust Luhnow has his eye on a veteran pitcher who he can sign at a good team value...look for a 3 year deal....

This from mlb.com on Whitley in the AFL:
Best curveball Forrest Whitley, RHP, Astros Whitley is baseball's top pitching prospect, in large part because he can miss bats with four pitches. He has one of the better curveballs in the Minors, though it hasn't been as sharp as usual in the Fall League, grading as his fourth-best offering on some days. He's still racking up strikeouts, topping the AFL with 23 in 17 innings.
Best changeup Forrest Whitley, RHP, Astros Considering that he has a mid-90s fastball with life and plane, a hard 12-to-6 curve and a harder slider with late bite, it seems unfair that Whitley possesses a quality changeup as well. He sells the pitch by maintaining his arm speed and it dodges bats with depth and fade. His changeup has helped him limit lefties to a .196 average in three pro seasons.

Bukauskus had some bumps last night but hung in there strong and only gave up one run despite allowing 4 walks. He only gave up 1 hit and 1 run. He is starting to round into pretty good shape.

Sure would be nice to get Whitley and J.B some tutelage with J.V. before he retires. These guys might end up being a 1-2 homegrown (same time) punch not seen since Glavine-Smoltz

JB also had a wild pitch that allowed the only run he gave up to score. He got a lot of help from his friends though. Drew Ferguson threw out a runner at second and the catcher threw out two runners attempting to steal while JB was on the mound. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 0-2 against JB. That is a good sign.

It might also mean that JB does a good job of holding the runners
