AJ will have Harris in the pen in 2020 still. Surely the Astros won’t pick up their option on Harris for next season. I was being about 5% serious. it's easy to convey that over a beer but over a computer keyboard, surprisingly hard. Harris tends to crack under high pressure and everyone knows that. He's fine as a regular season major leaguer on an average team... around a 3.50 ERA in one of MLB's toughest divisions this year is probably equivalent to a 3.00 ERA if he had been in the AL Central. He'll stick in the majors for some time still but he's better suited to a less competitive division. Which oddly enough is the gist of what Giles was saying about himself earlier today.

I think Harris’ club option for 2019 is something like $5.5 million. With all the ML ready arms the team has in the upper minors, they will replace him and save about $5 million.

Impressive of Osuna to go out there and put all the personal stuff out of mind enough to go out there and get a save. That bodes well for having the nerves to get through a postseason.

it only took the Astros 6 relievers to pitch the last four innings but hey, a win is a win. Bill Virdon might have thrown a few tomatoes at his TV set tonight though.

Osuna comes in to a chorus of boos. Not shocking. He shut them up in the best possible way. I'm sure Giles will get a similar greeting if he avoids the psych ward and ever pitches in Houston.

Hinch got away with letting Keuchel work his way through the 5th inning...He always scares me to death.
Jake comes in as a defensive replacement, gets a big double, and scores a big insurance run on Altuve's single......Too bad Jose had another of his many mental lapses and got picked off first base.
Big win. Expect Marwin and White both back in the lineup tomorrow.

He showed a lot by how he handled the boos that should have been expected and had the maturity to silence the crowd by getting the save. I will say it again...........we stole Osuna from the Bluejays and got rid of a mental case in the process.

Jakewith his .202 BA and .269 OBP, is there a worse player in all of baseball? Best outfielder on the team and one of the best in baseball. He will be on the playoff roster and will probably contribute.........he saves runs with his defense and can steal one with his speed. I can see Straw replacing him eventually, but, not now.

Not only were the Astros spared Ken Giles tonight, but they didn't have to face PEDSPaulino either. Paulino would have been as logical a choice as Petricka or Biagini were.

It would be just like Giles to intentionally go after Altuve or Springer. I don't like the idea of that nut pitching against us after all the crap he has popped off in the media.

The W puts Keuchel's record at 12-11 for the season. I really don't see a need for him to start any of the remaining six games, so his record may just stand there.
As far as "Framber vs. Keuchel" goes, it's interesting that Framber has an incredible 73% groundball rate this year (Keuchel's old claim to fame) whereas for Keuchel it's only 53%.

This may be the only Astros season on record where ALL Astros starters finish the season with a winning record.
Verlander 16-9 Keuchel 12-11 Cole 15-5 Morton 15-3 McCullers 10-6 Valdez 4-1 James 1-0
I couldn't say definitively that those 1980 and 1981 pitching staffs outshined this year's.

There had to have been several Astros position players who got vocal in the clubhouse about Giles being a nitwit. Esp after the FU incident with AJ. Giles probably knows who they are and may well try to retaliate. That would be my concern. It might also be a concern the Jays have and on that basis they may keep Giles out of this series. It would be classy of them. Technically I think Giles is their closer so one way the Astros could help the Jays not have to ponder this too much would be to jump out to big leads early and never give the Jays a save situation.

It didn't occur to me at the time, but one reason AJ may have left Keuchel out there with the bases loaded was to give him the chance of picking up the win and hence a winning season record. It's a small feather in his cap for free agent contract negotiations.
