Cruz needs a new home because the Mariners seem to be sellers this off season. Saw one report that they could trade Paxton to the Yankees. I thought the Yankees would be the top bidder for Keuchel...Keuchel may be disappointed when he doesn't get the big contract he wants. |

I’m pretty sure the Astros want Keuchel to accept that QO now. Without him, McCullers, and Morton, that rotation goes from luxurious to tenuous.

With McCullers out my guess is that we add a free agent starter to our #3 starter, and McHugh to our #4 and a rookie as our #5.
We need to add offense as our pitching is going to go back to 2017 levels so our offense has to go back to 2017 levels.

From checking different sources, it, appears that several teams have an interest in JT Realmuto and that is no surprise. If Luhnow is serious about getting him, we should be able to put together a package to get him without hurting us.

Luhnow is correct, if you look at the possible top 13 guys that we have we only have a small amount of risk as to being able to have a better staff than we did in 2017. If you project our top 5 starters as being Verlander, Cole, McHugh, Peacock, and James then those 5 guys will project to 850 innings of 3.50 era. Add in occasional starts from Valdez, Armenteros, and Perez and you have about 950 innings of 3.70 era. With a bullpen of Osuna, Pressley, Rondon, Smith, and Deetz and you should have a team era of less than 3.60. Not up to this year’s standards but one that when paired with an offense that adds Cruz and Grandal then you got another 100 win season and all your prospects still in tow to pull off a July trade deal if need be.
