He was pretty solid last year. I think that's a decent deal. Pretty low risk. I always liked him and remember that Nolan Ryan was high on him when he came up with the Rangers. I have always thought the Rangers misused him and that led to injuries. I hope he does well, just surprised he got that much money, 170 IP of mid-3 ERA baseball will get you money even if your history is mixed at best.

Avisail Garcia. One amazing year thanks to a BAbip of .392. Meh. Even with that one season he is an average hitter AT best with poor defense. It'll look like a solid signing on paper for the fanbase though.

He’s like a worse version of his teammate Abreu. Except Abreu can hit. Abreu is way better. I just meant he’s a slow doubles hitter with less pop.

Marwin to the Braves is being broadcast over twitter but many are calling it fake news. 3 yrs and $56 million is the report.
Braves beat writer is insisting for the time being that the team hasn't made Marwin an offer.
We'll have to wait a bit on this one and see if the Braves FO confirms it.

I am still waiting on Nathangarza for an update. News is the Braves have no current offer out there on the table Inquiring about the rumor that the Braves were signing Marwin Gonzalez, heard that Atlanta has no offers out to any free agents (including Marwin) and in fact is not currently in talks with any free agents. So I’d guess they are either focusing on trades or waiting out market.

The Rays are a creative thinking organization. I’m curious to see how they use Brendan McKay when he makes the big league club. He is their #2 prospect per mlb.com. He is rated the #3 left handed pitching prospect in the minor leagues and also the #2 first baseman prospect in the minor leagues per mlb.com.

He is rated the #3 left handed pitching prospect in the minor leagues and also the #2 first baseman prospect in the minor leagues per mlb.com. Some think JD Davis should try to be a two-way player. Ohtani is already doing it. We may be headed for an era of baseball where two-way players are increasingly common. It makes sense for organizations to promote this type of player when they can only have 25 men on the active roster. If you're a bench player and you get 80 innings per month in the field plus 10 innings on the mound, that's worth a lot to a team even if your OPS is only around .700 and your ERA is 4.50. Assuming you mostly played in low-leverage situations, your mistakes wouldn't be likely to lose your team the game and you'd be helping the better players rest up. With a player like that, you could get by with 13 position players and 12 "real" pitchers in the AL and maybe even go to a 14/11 split in the NL.

The journalist who said the Braves had signed Marwin has since taken down that tweet. His name is Marcus Grunfeld and he claims to be a journalist writing for Univision Sports out of Caracas. That is what seemed to lend his original tweet a bit of plausibility. Apparently he now thinks otherwise. twitter.com/bvenezolano

The only way this hurts the Astros is if that slew of prospects helps CLE build a powerhouse that is able to knock off the Astros in 2021-2025. That's not too worrisome at the moment. I have to think the Astros are likely to make one trade or FA acquisition before the end of the month, and then a second one by mid-February.

I say watch REALMUTO Lugo STROMAN Castellanos But the one thing I hope is not true is us being interested in Harper.OMG. I think his money screws us. If he where to sign

When players get signed/traded, they often get excited and tell their relatives. Just human nature. Some of those proud relatives, especially in foreign countries, may then get word to a local journalist who blabs about it before the team is ready to make an official announcement.
Not that the Marwin rumor specifically is true. But the general idea of a Latin American sports outlet breaking the news on a hometown favorite before the MLB club has vetted their press release does, in general, sound very plausible to me.
