Quite frankly I don't think Harper is worth as much as Machado due to less defensive value. That being said, it will be interesting to see if Harper would settle for anything less than $300 million given more accolades on his resume.

If the Phillies miss pit on Harper could we shop Reddick to the Phillies?
I'm sure we would have to throw in a couple prospects but what if?
I like Nick William's wonder if we could get him?

Yuli doesn't suck nearly as bad as some uou want to replace him. He will be the starting first baseman I agree but it doesn’t hurt to try and get more pitching. i am all for more pitching. not sure Miley is the answer. i would have preferred someone else......but,not Keuchel at the price he wants. He and Boras are probably sweating now.

Looking like Stroman wants out of Toronto. I’m guessing Luhnow is staying in contact with the Blue Jays GM. They have made deals in the past. Luhnow has plenty to offer. It's one of the hottest rumors out there Stroman to Houston. Let's hope that happens. you sent Stroman to Houston over a month ago and he still hasn't arrived.

Miley isn't the sexiest pick up, but it will help with SP depth. thanks and glad to be back. we could do worse than miley but I hoped for better. stroman sounds goo depending on what they want for him.

I didn't get all of the details, just read the headlines on the internet. Now Harper is on the clock, he turned down that kind of money with the Nats. Let's see what he settles for. I'll say Harper to the Phillies since they're spending like it's going out of styleThe Phillies look like a kid in a candy store, you keep hearing they want Dallas, but I assume they believe he will be available on the back burner. The Bank would be a great park for Harper to hit in.

The command was still there but his hit rate skyrocketed. If they can get that corrected that would be a huge boost to the bullpen.

Excellent point. His descent from an AS to mediocre in that short a period was puzzling. Hopefully we will see him back to form.

Manny won't want a strike. You bet. Everyone thought Machado was a nut case. I think the vote now goes to the person who would give him $300M. Precisely. The Pads are giving $300 million to and burdening themselves for 10 years with a guy who is a dirty, no-class, ball player who has stated that he is not the kind of player who is going to hustle to first base when he hits a ground ball to an infielder. They deserve what they will get when they get tired of his routine and have to eat a big chunk of his contract to get rid of him.

Maybe playing with some quality clubhouse guys like Hosmer and Myers will help with his attitude. And if it doesn't, they can drop him after the first 5 years when his production will likely start to decline anyways. I still think it's a solid deal for both sides given their situations. The Padres still have a fairly low team payroll with this deal so it's not like it's going to burden them financially.

IF so.... $10 bet says he is a Carlos Lee clone by 2029. I haven't used the term El Cabusto in years. (Never forget)

I don't think they've released the final details. I guess I figured it was a mutual option. You might be right. Still worth the gamble for a team in their position, imo.

The worst part of Manny Machado going to San Diego is the fact he will pay 40m over 10 yrs to Crylafornia in Taxes.
Why dont people see that state sucks badly

The taxes suck, but there are worse places for a young rich male to spend the bulk of his year.

If it's a mutual option, then it is essentially a five year $150M deal. I think they're stuck if he doesn't produce and will lose him if the unexspected happens and he outperforms his contract.
It sounds like a lose lose for the Padres to me.

I am glad he is in the National league. I know he doesn't give 100% effort but I would hate to face him in the playoffs.
