OK, fellers...I need you guys to sound off on the subject of advertisements on the forum. I still have some of the money on the books from you guys to pay for ad-free time. I'd shut it off during the dead offseason because it was a waste of money with us only using 2000 views a month (or less). Minimum plan is 50000/mo. We're busier now, but nowhere near the minimum 50000 page views covered by the ad-free purchase. So, if the ads are not problematic right now, I'll leave it turned off until the season gets into full swing and we start using up bandwidth again. If the ads are bothering you, let me know...if it's a real problem I can start paying for the monthly ad-free service again. I need this input, so you guys hollar and let me know what you think. One of the best posts ever, was when someone said to you they were getting porn ads, and you pointed out that was automatically populated off other things in their own search driver. That poster at that point was in a Southwest Airlines Commercial - Wanna Get Away? That was Paastrosfan. LMAO. Or maybe 15KT. |

There is an article out today on Astros minor league OF Granden Goetzman therunnersports.com/granden-goetzman-globetrotter-from-florida-to-oz-and-the-astros/ I hadn't heard of him until he came to ST this year. Apparently the Cardinals released him last summer and the Astros picked him up. Prior to joining the Cards, he had played in the Rays system and part of his duties for TBR included playing winter ball in Australia. Goetzman is only about a .650 OPS hitter in the minors, though he hit over .880 in Australia. Whether or not he ever makes it to the big league club, it's nice to know a little background on these guys we see in ST camp. |

I do not understand why so many people think having Kemp is such an asset. He is a below-average outfielder, hits with little power and does not drive in runs. The only place to hide him on the field is in left and we need a run producer out there. The only way we can afford to play him is if others are driving in runs. I kept thinking Luhnow would trade him after we signed Brantley,but, he's still here taking up space. Your attempts to remove a threat to your son, Jake, are transparent son. We all see though it. Defensively, Kemp isn't close to being as good as Jake. Jake has more power..........more speed. The only advantages Kemp has are OBP and they want to keep a black guy on the roster. |

While it's true there is some social pressure from lib circles to have more black players in the MLB, I don't think that is a consideration for the Astros re: Kemp.
The team already has Brantley, James, Guduan, Framber, and many minor leaguers of African descent. I don't see anyone lodging a successful discrimination suit against Crane. The Astros are a very diverse group.

If he was clearly superior in one aspect, you could make a case for it. He is not a good defender, he has no power, and, while not being slow, doesn't have great speed. His arm is weak. I would keep Jake or Straw both ahead of him. Trade him. |

But in the end they gotta make a decision on some cats. You want tucker down or up? You talked big game all offseason about how untouchable he is. You need to play him or trade him. And we all know he qont get traded. Straw needs to be batting a way way lot more then he is to see how his bat does against quality SP. |

Seems all the buzz the last few days has Kuechel going to the Padres. Wish Luhnow could entice him into a a one year deal, $2 or $ 3M over the QO maybe.
I mean isn't all about winning the WS? And who really thinks the Padres are?

All I know is Keuchel is putting himself in a hole by waiting this long.
He ought to be making his second ST start by now and throwing around 50 pitches to MLB and near-MLB hitters.
I'm sure he may be throwing to a catcher somewhere or maybe throwing to some college kids in his community, but that's not the same.

If Keuchel misses the first month of the season just getting warmed up and stretched out, that is 15% of the season gone right there and logically, a team owner should discount his 2019 salary by that percentage too.

apparently Gomez played in the NYM system as a young player, so he's hoping to have some kind of a 'homecoming'.
The funny thing is that many of their fans seem oblivious to how bad Gomez was on his other teams, including the Astros.
My guess is they stash him in AAA and use him as an injury replacement at some point. But I'd be surprised if he got more than 150 big league PAs this year.
