Can I ask you a question? Would you take Santana along with Haniger for let's say Joe Smith and some prospects? Or even Seager? I doubt they trade Haniger straight up any where. But I also dont trust Haniger and his one year of greatness. But that's me. Haniger would be worth a top prospect and others due to his years of control. You missed what I asked Are you willing to take Sanatana or Seager to go along with Haniger? That's what its gonna take

Although there is a love feast for him as a need player the Astros want. Look out for Snydegaard. Apparently the Mets asked for Tucker Kemp and a Picthcing Prospect not name Whitley What the hell is the holdup then?

There is just so much that has to go right with our pitching prospects to not sign a starter would be insane. Even signing one would mean that everything would have to work out in order for us to be serious contenders for a World Series berth. Our only real chance in my mind would be out score our opponents. It is highly doubtful that Haniger will get traded to the Astros because of the level of team control he has left. So we have to load up with Grandal/Ramos, Cruz, and Goldschmidt. No way Goldschmidt costs Tucker for only one year of control. At the worst he would cost White, Perez, and Martin. That way we have a slugger's chance of winning it all again. Yeah, but if we can't outscore most of baseball with a healthy Altuve, Correa, Springer, Bregman, Gurriel, and an addition like Nelson Cruz, we probably weren't going to outscore people anyways. If Goldschmidt can be had for some prospects that don't include a top pitching prospect or Tucker, I'm okay with it. I just think we have other areas to improve before a 1B rental. We can improve DH and LF through free agency easily and for reasonable money (plus a pitcher like Morton or Buchholz, etc.), and then use Tucker and some other prospects to go trade for a top pitcher like Syndergaard with multiple years of control so we can contend past just 2019. Adding a great bat to a very good line up can work wonders. Takes the pressure off of everyone. Think JD Martinez to the Red Sox.

Exactly. There is just no reason to trade for Goldschmidt, imo. There is just so much that has to go right with our pitching prospects to not sign a starter would be insane. No way Goldschmidt costs Tucker for only one year of control. At the worst he would cost White, Perez, and Martin. That way we have a slugger's chance of winning it all again. Trading for Goldschmidt at this time makes sense ONLY if we had to give up someone like White and some lower-level prospects.

I'm asking a question on this topic.
Michael Conforto. Would you trade for him? Stassi and Kemp or Jake?

Everyone would love to steal Goldschmidt for White and lower level prospects. I have said this 100 times at least but we are only guaranteed Verlander and Cole for one more year. We either trade and sign for some high impact guys or we may as well just roll over and play dead. We lost a bunch of talent how are we going to replace that and then some so that we are the best team again.

Thor; has yet to have a 200IP season, I say keep the top prospects and focus on offering contracts to Verlander and Cole. If they can keep Verlander through 2021 and Cole to 2024, then that really expands the window the Astros have being the top in the AL West....plus, they don't trade away any top prospects, ones they will need. But you know money is limited. We can't just sign everybody. At some point we'll need to trade some prospects.

Haniger is so valuable that you draw the line at no two pitchers unless I get one back. Then they say ok. You take the guy we just got from the Mets Swarzak. Its alot of finagling and left or rights. Idk if that would be even worth the fight. Michael Conforto I think I would see if I could talk them out of him. Maybe offer Jake, Stassi and a prospect for Conforto

Atlanta doing there homework on Dallas Keuchal. McCann is recruiting and is a familiar face. Not a bad fit. Better them then us or the two others who showed fits Blue Jay's and Reds.

Hazen and Luhnow are friends Crane and Kendrick close like really close.
So a Diamondbacks trade is a big big way to go

Good free agent pitchers are ridiculously expensive. That's why I've said used a good prospect or two to get a good multi-year controllable pitcher so we can keep money for Cole, Verlander, Springer.
We can sign immediate impact bats/upgrades for DH and LF (and C if we weren't obsessed with Realmuto) on short-term deals for way cheaper than we can get a pitcher. Use money for them.

We need to be sure we have the money to extend Verlander, Cole, and Springer...those three are the first three that need to be extended. Then, we need to extend Correa (if he can stay healthy and produce), and Bregman.

Ummmm, Tucker saves them money, he gets paid peanuts in comparison to any LF you are advocating for...what good contact, power hitting prospects that is not a liability in the OF do the Astros have in the minors? One that has a legitimate chance on making the majors....Alvarez, from what I have seen, is a liability on the OF....as well as Beer...sounds like future 1b and DH to me.

I don't want to trade Tucker for mediocrity. If we can keep him and still get some other guys I'm all for it. But if we can get a high talent controllable pitcher for Tucker we should, imo. I'd rather have a LF hole to fill in free agency than a good SP hole to fill in free agency. Tell me what you prefer: Springer Straw/Diaz Reddick Syndergaard Springer Tucker Reddick Framber You could potentially be looking at Framber as one of your rotation pieces after next year with very limited depth after him....

right now you are looking at Framber Valdez or Peacock THIS year. Verlander, Cole, McHugh, James, and Valdez. That does not make anyone other than Astros fans shake in their boots.

You're forgetting Whitley. But yes, even more reason why we need to get a starting pitcher now (especially one that is controllable past this year).
